Yeah, I’m just digging myself deeper on this speech bubble confusion here. The worst part is I could have made it way more clear they were talking on over their helmet communications if I’d used that sort of speech bubble when they first appeared, but no, that would have been too easy. Anyway…
Miko’s denial is pretty specific there… 😐 Though to be fair it’s probably just that’s the only part Miko would find offensive. I’m starting to wonder if Miko even realizes no one else can hear the ‘invisible fairy’.

I think the buffer will hit 3 this week. While there is only 1 more finished page, there is 1 with line art done and 2 more with the rough sketches done. Running off a buffer as made it so I can work across several at the same time, which is a very curious work pattern for someone that’s lived pen-to-publish as long as I can remember… 😛

Yes, definitely some confusion on those last few lines, but as we can only see half the conversation, that just turns it to comedy. 🙂
Miko’s dialogue is interesting here. Either she is actually somewhat insane, really good at bluffing, or has legitimate reason to believe that people that just beat Tyler can’t hurt her.
I assume she is a non-combatant, and she is clearly stating that “He” would do something about it if the IDS soldier attacks her. This is almost certainly Mium, who is not present (though it could reference Peter in a more “would avenge me” sort of way). Frankly her confidence doesn’t make much sense from what we know. I will have to think on more theories for this.
I think it’s all of the above. I have no reason to doubt that Miko is good at bluffing. And I think I detect signs that she is partly insane or at least very eccentric. (Most true geniuses are a bit eccentric, right?)
And if Mium has a close friendship with Miko, closer even than his friendship with Peter, then I think it’s fair to say that Mium has been protecting Miko for a while now and does a pretty good job of it. Likely, Miko has good reason to put her confidence in Mium, considering what he is capable of.
I mean, not only is Mium’s prototype body impressive in its capabilities, but Machine-god Mium is even more impressive. You’ve see what D.r Will Caster (Johnny Depp) was capable of in Transcendence (2014), right?
That said, Miko may know that Mium would be unable protect her in this situation. However, she must be familiar with IDS and their policies well enough to know that they would not hurt her. They must be trained to respond to lethal force with same, but to try to keep casualties to a minimum. To attack an unarmed civilian who is just giving them a hard time? Pretty unthinkable for what amounts to a police force. That’d have serious public relations consequences, anyway.
The IDS are a pretty broad spectrum. CI is closer to police, SC is closer to military (as they are technically a branch of the military as well as a branch of the IDS). That said, being familiar with them has something to do with it. SC and CI are far less likely to be dangerous to a civilian that doesn’t attack them than CA or HQ might be (though universals can be dangerous assumptions).
That said, if Mium wasn’t still there to talk to Miko, Miko probably would be… acting a quite a bit differently (Miko does not do well without Mium, at least, not outdoors where there are other people and scary things). Miko may have a tendency to keep sending Mium messages until he replies even when NOT outdoors (which we actually saw a bit of once long ago…))

Contemplating Miko’s one-sided conversation with Mium here, the many conversations that Miko must have had with Mium, and how they came to know and trust each other has me wondering whether or not Mium has a sense of humor. I think it has been said somewhere that humor is a sign of sentience. (Babylon 5, at least.) So I figured Mium would have one. Though, it’s possible or even likely that his humor would seem strange to most humans.
Mium does act like he has a sense of humor. I could not find it right away, but during his conversation with Kallisto Summers he calls her “Miss Winters” yet clearly knows her name.
Basically he is a troll. He trolls Kally and he trolls Ila pretty badly a few times (during her first meeting with Naomi, for example).
It is fairly subdued as he only occasionally says what thinks, but I can imagine it being a lot more prominent with Miko.

Wow! Yes, that pretty much explains Miko in just one sentence. ^_^ I can somewhat understand her personality and way of thinking, now. I’m guessing that her IQ is so high that, with most people, she must feel like she’s conversing with morons. (Not to mention how most everyone does or says a stupid now and then.) It also helps explain why she seems to have a special rapport with Mium.
I see a lot of similar slogans, but not quite that one. I’m sure it’s out there if you look a bit more. I think it’s a ways before I need to come up with tee-shirts or other merchandise though 😛
Plus, that’d be a shirt you could only wear to work if you worked in IT 😛
I think if you fused Miko and Naomi you would get one average person, as they may entirely cancel out (not really, but they do seem to share very few traits… 😉 ). Now I just have to decide what would be the worst idea between a Miko/Peter hybrid, a Miko/Ila hybrid or a Miko/Rovak hybrid…
“Because people are stupid” works in *so* many professions, not just IT.
Lawyer is a big one that comes to mind – their entire industry would not exist if people weren’t stupid. Contrast to IT, where *most* of our industry wouldn’t exist if people weren’t stupid. (I estimate that we would need about 1% of the current number of IT professionals if everyone was competent at their jobs, including non-IT people. After all, the shit still needs to get set up, and hardware failures would still happen, even though they would be much rarer than in our world. But 0% of lawyers.) This is not to say that all lawyers fight stupid. Some take advantage of it. Their industry even has a reputation for that. But without the stupid, nobody could take advantage of the stupid.
Oh, you mean *get away* with wearing that shirt? Even as a lawyer, you could still wear that shirt, it would just have to be as an undershirt under your dress shirt. Or you could wear it on vacation and stuff.
