Comic for Thursday, March 31st
Apr01
Ah, that’s cutting it a little close to ‘still on Thursday’ ain’t it… and a tad rushed on top of that. Least we’ll have plenty of time for Monday’s with this going up today.
Mir is having a really crappy week, if you think about the time-frame of the last few chapters.
I was surprised at how long ago it was that we last saw our red eyed friend here, we haven’t seen him since August, back when he announced his plan to… well, pretty much do exactly what he seems to be doing now.
There was some temptation for April Fool’s shenanigans, but I’m sure you guys get enough of that on the rest of the internet without me missing an update for it 😛
Seriously. Mir’s got to have a brilliant side to her. Bring something to the table that is ground-breaking and unique.
Otherwise any company leadership with only half of a percent of common sense would long have let her go. And considering what we’ve seen of Avon I mean permanently let her go. As in “without forwarding adress”.
I think it was revealed that she worked with the brilliant scientist who created Mium and the F-series, among other things. The company most likely hopes Mir is familiar enough with his work to continue his research posthumously. Though, it sounds like her work -is- mostly derivative and she fails to fully understand his research. One may try to blame Mir for that. But I suspect her deceased (missing?) predecessor’s research was just that far ahead of anything their world had ever seen.
There’s another good reason to keep Mir around: Just look at what she did to herself. She’s a walking prototype, herself – possibly even, technically, company property now. Granted, it makes her seem like she was desperate for a breakthrough, to take such a risk. And mentally unstable.
They can’t exactly ‘let her go’, because of what she knows and what she has become. Likewise, they can’t exactly permanently ‘retire’ her… because of what she knows and what she has become. It’s a catch 22.
Perhaps what they should do is hire someone smarter than Mir and put Mir -under- that person?
As always you’ve got some spot on analysis.
There was a time when Mir (and the rest of the that department) was slightly better controlled, but under the current leadership, it’s a bit of a zoo.
And despite her flaws, she’s clearly fairly obsessed with her work; as long as her work is even vaguely the right direction, someone like that can be very useful if you’re willing to not look too closely at the details.
Mir (and her whole department, including several other key researchers – as Ryn said ‘several labs full of mad scientists’) are sort of legacy project of which the current leadership has dubious control over.
As for her success… well, Ila seems to be her attempt at continuing the F-series, and while Mium was disdainful, she can alter Eidos, which isn’t insignificant.

Why isn’t it in “related comics”?
Related comics is a auto generated thing by ComicPress (the site frame I use). I should probably remove it, since it’s basically just random (since I don’t tag my comics).
Thanks for the link (for the other commentators). I should try to back link comics more often to save people from having to look these things up…
Heh! Miko, why are you taunting the maw of the lion? And here I thought she was just speaking her mind. But this was clearly said to get a reaction out of Mir.
Miko certainly seems to think she can get away with it, but why remains a good question. Perhaps it’s just ingrained into how she speaks after communicating via the internet too many years…
I’m afraid that his welcome will be ……lacking.
Is the other hacker beginning to wonder just what she’s gotten herself into, here? ^^
We will get to know her better. Least she shouldn’t be disappointed or bored by how the day’s gone…
