Comic for Friday, July 17th
It’s interesting – I’ve worn a tie before plenty of times in my life and I suffered no particular illusions that I was drawing them at anything that closely resembled what ties actually look like; that said, having actually worn one recently, I think I have developed a better appreciation of how little my drawn version of ties, button up shirts, and jackets actually look anything like their worldly counterparts. I hadn’t really considered that my comic was giving away the fact that I wear a t-shirt 99% of the time. There will be some minor changes I guess 🙂
Someday I’ll wear a scarf and realize they don’t behave like Mium’s… (I already know that one too, actually, but I wasn’t going to admit to having worn a scarf here – wasn’t recently anyway, so I’ve had plenty of time to forget).
A quick heads up that I’m aware that I’m a little behind on bonus art for Patreon, vote incentives, and that I owe a blog post (on making ads) from this week. Hopefully I’ll catch up this stuff this weekend or so. This week sort of hit the shitter as far as time went between various expected and unexpected appointments. Expect at least some new Patreon art and a new vote incentive bonus this weekend, blog post may be pushed back till next week.
On that note, one of them was the last real appointment with the surgeon, and I’m more or less home free (still have physical therapy stuff) but the surgeon is pretty sure I’ll have full range of motion back in another three months, which was good news; full usage is a little further off and I don’t expect I’ll be playing tennis right handed anytime soon, but it’s still positive news I guess.

I didn’t want to freak you out, but, yeah, up until recently you’ve been drawing mostly the symbols of things, rather than the things themselves. You’re moving beyond that now, which is why everything is starting to look more lifelike.
Why didn’t I say anything? Because what you’re now doing would have sounded impossible and scary before, and anyway, you’ve been figuring it out for yourself. One reason I’m encouraging flamboyance, is that the creativity required moves you even further from symbolic drawing. (The other reason is that it just looks Mega-cool, like on this page. Woo! For the Hyperscarf–Stan Lee would be proud! ^^ )
On another tack, I’m pretty sure that Dr. Mir & Co. still have the wrong idea about Mium……..
Ah it will definitely been an interesting see how Naomi’s directive is carried out. I’m pretty sure Mium understands the basics, but I’m highly unsure what he thinks of the concept of sibling.
I’m always glad to hear the art is getting better. I think there is a long way to go, but I do understand what you are saying. I think since I don’t really use references for anything (I know I should) that unless I tend to think of the details of how something actually works mechanically I skip a few steps 😀
Even with the car on the last page, you can tell I didn’t think it through since a wheel doesn’t actually look that way (the lug nuts are clustered in the center of a wheel for obvious reasons compared to being on the rim near the tire… I know these things, but I don’t typically think of them when I draw…)
There is a reason that most people in the comic that think they have a guess as to what Mium is don’t quite right have it right, he’s not quite what he should be 😀
Seems like he only has defense. Maybe he’s confused what to do now. ^^
Probably has some plan though, wonder how good her security is this time…
Fighting people really is more of Naomi’s thing, though Mium is probably less helpless on this front than he appears.
And come to think of it, he doesn’t appear that helpless. 😀
That said, I can’t imagine he showed up planning to have a good old fashioned brawl. Not really his style.
Nice page here, and it’s nice to hear that you’re recovering well.
As for the page, I suspect that this fight will be letting Ila escape. I just don’t see Mium as powerful enough to grab her and flee whatever goons Avon sent. Of course I can totally see Ila going rogue, either now so she can win or at Avon HQ so she can show them her worth.
This just seems like the way the story is going for me, at least right now.
