Comic for Thursday, June 23rd
Ha, bet you thought I’d be late again. Wait. We are already late? Damnit I demand a clock that is further west, further west I say!
Anyway…
It seems our armored friends have arrived, and not even that late. I guess it sort of damages your ego if you have have to wait behind while someone in a suit does your work for you. Probably just as well for said suit, though Β he was doing rather well, all things considered.
I was tempted to put a “whiff” sound effect by each of the glowing orbs in panels 4 and 5, but somehow that seemed irresponsible. Not sure why.
He’s not talking about a literal demon… is he?
Want a custom comment avatar? See comment below for details! (ie: I set it up because someone wanted one, and now that it’s set up, I can set more up fairly easily). You can also use gravatar do it yourself if you want it for all gravatar sites and don’t use a fake email address. You can use one the one my site even if you give me an obviously fake email address, but it will have to be the same fake email address everytime you post for it to pick up.
Hi Commentors!
I’ve introduced the functionality for users to have their own avatar specific to this site. This functionality was requested by someone (…whose avatar should make this obvious, not to name names though, cough, MayW, cough) but I’m happy to extend it to anyone that wants.
This was something that you could do through gravatar previously, but this is a) easier as I have to do it for you, and b) specific to only this site.
Things you can request; snip from page or character from cast sheet, or any appropriate 100×100 image you provide me (it can even be from another comic, I am not a jealous overlord, but you should probably get permission from them).
If you want a custom drawn one, you can submit a request and we’ll see, no promises.
Seems a bit weird and ironic to me that you added this functionality for commenters, yet you do not use an avatar of a comic character for yourself. Most webcomics I’ve read have authors who use an avatar of one of their characters. (In your case, I suppose Peter’s would be most fitting. You are clearly the scheming mastermind of this story, after all.)
Then again, we’ve all gotten used to your tree symbol avatar by now and can instantly spot it. π
Edit: Oh! Never mind. I see the same symbol behind the title on the top. Is it a palm tree? Does this symbol have direct story relevance? Does it represent a faction?
PastUtopia Productions was (past tense for now) a company/brand I planning to publish indie games with. I never managed to like a finished game well enough to publish, but that’s where the comic came from. The logo was just what I used for that ‘company’ (which was mostly just me and some contract-by-item workers). Since I thought I ought to use a logo and didn’t really have one for the comic, I used this one. It is a dog silhouetted onto a palm tree, though it’s harder to see in the tiny logo form π
I doubt it’ll be the symbol for any faction inside that comic, cause then I’d be planning favorites π Maybe it’ll make a cameo appearance someday if backgrounds get detailed enough that we can see logos and so forth frequently without having to assume they are somehow relevant π
As for using a character, I dunno, I might, but it’d be like playing favorites if I do. Peter is the main character, but probably not my favorite; he’s sort of a scheming bastard, after all π
” I didn’t want this to come to this- ”
I’m not certain of the grammar rules involved. However, it sounds weird to phrase it that way; using “this” in the same sentence with another “this”. It would sound better to say, ” I didn’t want things to come to this- ” or ” I didn’t want it to come to this- ”
To be fair, having two “that”s in a row is grammatically correct. Though, some argue that doing so is verbally clunky or awkward-sounding.
You’re right; I probably wouldn’t have written it like that if I’d given it better thought π ; that said, I’ll probably leave it, I imagine he’s sort of rambling and a little rattled, not exactly prime making sense territory.
Yup, that’s right, I’m blaming the character, not the author. This makes sense in my world, that’s how weird it is in here. π
So another two people asking what are you to Ila. Also why is she bleeding?
its umm… lubricant?
i was surpprised too, since i dont remember her bleeding during the battles vs mium.
Actually, she did bleed when she fell after being “shut off” during the last fight with Mium. You can sort of see it HERE* and clearly see it on her hair and clothes HERE*. Interestingly, it does not seem like Mium bleeds, which considering he claimed she was built using his model is weird.
*Assuming I did links right this time.
Both links work just fine. π
Indeed, we have seen her bleed before, and she did not seem to be able to fix herself to the extent that Mium could.
It’s all very suspicious.
You know, i’d entirely forgotten that Ila used to have white hair. Odd ^^
I guess white hair isn’t normal so they dyed it?
This comment is made funnier by your new avatar. If you want an orange haired one, you’ll have to let me know.
*prepares the paint bucket tool
Edit: In my defense so I don’t look crazy, originally (as in, when I made this comment and after they made their comment) MayW’s site avatar was Ila with white hair. I should I know, I made it. Paint bucket tool was used. The timeline is complicated. I don’t want to hear it!
We’ll see if the IDS has any real teeth? Special agents don’t seem to be enough to handle much, but these guys look to mean business. They even worked together there it looks like.
Curious how this will go. Maybe they could take Ila, but Ila, Mium and maybe Kally? That seems pretty one-sided considering those are likely the strongest characters so far.
We will see. Would really be a thing of those three worked together. … … π
The IDS Special Agents aren’t exactly slouches, but they aren’t frequently engaged in high powered magical brawls. That’s more what the IDS Situation Containment folks here are for… π
It looks to me as if Ila is about to “Release the Kraken on these clowns. ^^
“Red eyes”. Does this mean that Tyler ISN’T a Registered Mage, or that not all Registered Mages are Warmages?
(Side note: Your wet hair and clothes depictions are looking more natural by the page–keep it up.) π
Ila is certainly contemplating their grand destruction, but it’ll be tricky. Attacking and defending at the same time is notoriously hard, though she does have a fairly enormous advantage in how many calculations she can run in parallel compared to a normal mage, but most of her better attacks we’ve seen required several/all of them (the explosion she took out Rovak with, the ‘railgun’-esque she tried to use on Mium).
It’s nice to see all this action, because it feels like it has been awhile. (I don’t count the tennis match because that was not really combat.)
But, at this rate, it seems a forgone conclusion that this standoff won’t end until Mium arrives. When he does, it’s pretty much game over, considering how he can negate magic on the fly. I’m not saying that Mium is invulnerable, because he’s clearly not. But with Mium and Ila on the same side? Yeah… That’s gonna be tough to beat.
That said, Ila is way too competitive and probably won’t even consider true cooperation. She has to hog the glory and prove that she’s superior to Mium. And that could cause problems for the protagonists, like getting in the way or proverbial stepping on toes.
Kally treated the game as though it was. ^^
Mium and Ila do make a good theoretical team, since his advantage over mages are close ranges seems pretty broken so far, and she has several pretty high grade artillery style attacks we’ve see.
It is hard to imagine them actually cooperating though. Mium’s opinion of Ila seems to better only then Ila’s opinion of Mium.
