There’s a face we haven’t seen in awhile. Well. I guess not that long, all things considered? We haven’t seen much of her, really. Though inexplicably she’s Amaranth’s avatar. You people and your avatars are weird sometimes.
Sorry this will be short as I’m currently out and about and just posting this up before I forgot; patreon update will go up tomorrow, as I don’t have that queued up unfortunately (sorry). I am not a master of planning and organization. Or, well, an adept of it. Or, well, an initiate of it. Basically none of the things. My planning and organization sometimes resemble my spell and grammar – that’s all I’m going to say there, seems ’nuff said.
Aha! He didn’t know about the code! And Mium did say he “can but won’t!” Hehe~ (I mean shoot for every option and one of them’s bound to be right but hey….)
The “rescheduling software updates is just Peter’s superstition” seems like a hilarious ‘nother conversation. (Mium seems to be good at starting up those.)
At least Arron’s finally learning to stop underestimating Mium, though. (Or at least try to.) And seems to respect Miko’s decisions(/ability to make them) enough to at least refer to that name now. The visit might not’ve gotten him quite what he wanted, but I’m sure he got a lot more that he actually needed.
So…
MIUM: I don’t hate you, but the only reason I’m not going to rip your arm off (and at your request, nonetheless) is because it would upset people I DO like.
Also, did anyone else notice that, technically speaking, MIUM never answered Arron’s question? “What does it do?” was answered by saying that data from the environment seems to be connected to edos “location data”. All he says is what essentially is a truism, of course “environmental data” about location and edos data about location will show “considerable correlation”. Never once does he say that the particular Edos data he is looking at is what is in Aron’s arm.
Furthermore think back to when Peter stopped Tyler from bugging MIUM by telling him that if he pissed off MIUM that he would spend every moment of every day wondering if every inconvenience was MIUM messing with him. Is there a chance that Atter didn’t actually succeed in putting something into Arron and that MIUM is just messing with him, simply because he “doesn’t like” him? Perhaps the “piece of atter’s code in his arm” is nothing more than the Edos code for flesh and blood, which is very different from what Mium has in his arm. If MIUM is willing to go “literal gene” on them then why shouldn’t he go all the way to “evil gene” as well?
Mium tends to answer questions, but by beating around the bush. He just seems to be saying that Atter’s code being there would allow Atter access to environmental data, I guess like a tracking bug. Of course, Mium may intentionally let Arron and us draw the wrong conclusions.
Arron still falls into the family category, I doubt Mium is deliberately messing with him. Not too much anyway.
More likely I suspect that Mium guesses it is done sort of Intel gathering of some sort. Atter seemed inclined to kill Arron though, so probably it does more than just track.
Not sure if someone else mentioned it or I just thought it, but it might be part of how Atter is anchoring himself. Possibly it bleeds health or life force from the infected to heal and anchor Atter.
-G-
I’m the one who mentioned it possibly being used to anchor Atter. š My reasoning is that Atter is a “Demon” he must follow orders precisely but can and will do the literal genie trick. We as the audience know something that even Mium dose not know and must only guess. Atter’s original orders in effect when he planted the the bug(s) was to cause a slow lingering illness leading to death, sense then his mandate has been greatly expanded. I’m guessing that that bug because it is a connected to Atter can be re-purposed to act as a planar beacon and/or horicrux.
Mium may may also may have only proposed the most drastic of remedies because he might have plans for using the bug to draw Atter out where he can be permanently exterminated. Or he might have been subtly nudging Arron to go back to David to have him use Ka’vil which might be a ancient tool designed to deal with demons but not malfunctioning hi-tech implants.
ps. Panel 7 “How can (you ) tell it’s there?”
Thank you, yes. That’s where I got the idea. You put that into the previous comic discussion, which is why I couldn’t find it on this page. Thank you!
I agree with your assessment. In fact it is making me think that in this comic universe, demon and SMAI differ primarily in whether the code was written on computer hardware or via Eidos in flesh.
I think Past fixed panel 7 once. Maybe something happened to revert it to the original?
Huh. Does “I could prevent you from ceasing to function” mean “it’ll kill you eventually”? Or am I misunderstanding that?
Translating from Muimspeak
Arron: “Can you remove what Atter put in my arm”
Muim: “I can remove your arm without killing you, which will also remove what Atter put in your arm, but I don’t think you will like it”
Ah. I can prevent *removing your arm* from killing you (rather than a more general “I can prevent you from dying”). That was what I was missing.
Panel 6: Mium is “considering that that” instead of just considering that. Just like that other optical illusion where you don’t notice the duplicate word because it’s on the
the next line!
Fixed, thanks š
“You are misunderstanding.” Wouldn’t it be simpler to say “You misunderstand”?
There are some who talk that way
Indeed. And Mium is one of them.
He doesn’t prefer options just because they’re easier, recall….
I laughed ad Mium’s response. “Yeah, I could take your arm off, but I don’t think that’s what you want.”
Spell and grammar. Might be a joke. Might not be. Hard to tell. Then again, sometimes I can’t tell when I’m joking.
Panel 7. “how can tell that it’s there”, seems like it deserves a pronoun. You, or I, or some pronoun.
I couldn’t tell last comic if Mium was dropping a bomb or deliberately revealing a bit of how much intel he has. Now we see he was dropping a bomb. He knew darn well that Arron was oblivious to Atter’s infection/code.
The last two panels confuse me, which makes me realize again that I read this comic 7 days a week as much for the insight from the other posters as for Past’s discourse.
Thank you!
-G-
Yeah… I’d say about 9 times a week, at least, for me. Once a day, plus twice on the day it’s posted (once in the middle of the night, when there are no comments, and once later in the day when other people have commented).
Sounds about right.
The last two panels appear to be Tyler Weber in the hospital; last seen fighting and getting injured here. And Maia, the blind, (sees Eidos?) Levenworth student coming to visit.
Ah ha! That’s it! Hippie Tyler, I was trying to match him with a female character.
Haha, to be honest in profile the faces are pretty hard to tell apart in general. While I’ve gotten a little better at faces in profile, they lose most of the defining characteristics that they have (such as the faces have defining characteristics š )
Fixed, thanks š
