A peterpromise is a unique term not really related to “promise”, in that it does not intend to contain a promise, and if it does seem to, it always worth double checking to see if it actually contains the promise you were looking for…
They do have hologram technology that is not all blue. In general, the blue-holograms are not really a cusomer thing, most people just use like screens and telephones like more normal, but the blue ones tend to be (in theory at least) part of high security networks. How does it being blue make it more encrypted? One of the great mysteries of the world.
Buffer is progressing nicely, 9/3’s page will go up on Patreon today so we are a little over a week ahead on the buffer now. These half pages are going to balloon chapter length… this chapter might become the longest one yet.
Wiki is still getting spambot accounts, but not heavy enough to lock it back down for now. I really don’t get how few pennies-per-spam these people could be paid that this is ever worth their time.
Wiki is locked again, I think I have to just give up on the idea of it being unlocked. There is just an overwelming amount of spam going onto every time I unlock it, and I don’t think its worth my or anyone else’s time to try to block it. Sort of disgusting, but what you gonna do.
From here on out, it will be like with posting avatars, just email or comment that you want wiki access and I’ll give you a user that can edit it.
Just noticed, panel I: “suspicion” (not “suspecion”)
I think this is the scene that Peter is referring to is this one. It does make curious what the rest of that conversation contained.
It does seem to strike me that Peter’s reply is pointing out the flaw in dealing with “not honorable men”, as Peter reply is basically just saying he’ll do whatever suits his own interests. Peter’s conversations are often like there, where I am not sure if he is making a point, or just saying things.
I fixed your link. I think that is the comic you were aiming for, let me know if it’s not (the link target was blank).
I agree that Peter’s probably being extra-Peter here because of her assertion about not wanting to deal with honorable men.
That said, if that’s the case, I think he’s missing the distinction between honorable and honest. I think the Consul quite likes dealing with honesty. What she doesn’t want is someone who will get offended at her ‘taking advantage of him’, because she accepted his offer of assistance in dealing with someone else who wasn’t acting honorably.
Still, it’s also quite possible that Peter is astutely determining her reason for turning his uncle down was not what she said it was. My guess for what it really would have been would be she didn’t want the political consequences of accepting help from IDS while she’s telling her people that IDS is a major threat. From a practical standpoint, it would make perfect sense to accept his help, knowing the personalities involved. But while it is unclear exactly how the Consul came to power, what is pretty clear is that she wants to stay in power and views caring about popular opinion an important part of doing that. She realizes for the vast majority of her constituents, the distinction between ‘the part of I.D.S. that’s literally diabolical’ and ‘the part of I.D.S. that’s actually intent on doing the job they claimed’ is overly subtle, so she doesn’t want a part of that. But a rogue I.D.S. agent is another matter, especially one who is seeking Malsan citizenship.
Solid color holograms compress better, which can be useful to help reduce the expense of encrypting everything.
I wonder if the consul realizes that Arron is Peters uncle….and have we ever heard anything about Peter’s dad?
I am travelling so cannot link (typing on phones is bad enough), but we have seen Peter’s dad quite a few times. Peter’s dad is Kyle Kepler who works for the Civil Service. We even saw Peter’s sister Mari in a two intermissions.
I also think that the Consul probably knows Arron and Peter are at least related, because it was her Bureau chief (Cao, Tyler’s boss) who told Tyler that Peter was either related to Arron or pretending he was.
We have heard that Peter’s mother is around (or at least someone implied to be Kyle’s wife). The missing Keplers are Miko’s parents, one of which should be Peter and Kyle’s sibling, Arron’s wife or kids (if he has them), and Peter’s mother has not been seen. It has not been confirmed if there are more siblings besides Mari and Peter, but Mari is the only one that shows up in bonus art and intermissions so far.
*Arron and Kyle’s sibling
I think Madame Consul is realizing that Peter is out of even her league for intrigue and manipulation. 🙂
One could argue that if the hologram is one color of various shades, it requires less bandwidth to transmit. The counter to that argument is that the depth of shading would counter any savings. It could also have to do with the wavelength being shorter than it would be for red.
I suspect the monochrome simply indicates the secure nature.
To reiterate a point made previously by somebody else (or more than one of them)…
You put more into your 2nd day half-pages than some people put into their whole pages, once per week. And Madame Consul did a superb job of not wheedling at/with Peter, but instead accepting what he offered. Wise move!
Good work on the buffer.
And to continue on this thread , the chapter won’t be longer. It will just take longer to come out. If you’re giving us half pages instead of full pages then the number of pages is remaining consistent, the number of updates is changing.
Regular updates of content will keep and hold readers. That is what you want. If you look at it like the original comic form in print, a serial like Prince Valiant was essentially one of your half pages a week. In my opinion consistency is what you need to maintain. Having a buffer Enhances your Patreon experience. That buffer lets you have a life around your project. I would say keep doing half pages for at least the rest of this year. They will become the norm. You will eventually get a month or two of buffer, you will be making consistent regular updates which attract new readers, votes, and new subscribers.
That regular, repeatable performance, that consistency will move most of them into the next project eventually. You will be living, making your living from your art. When you get to publishing the chapters, I’ll be buying the DRM free electronic versions to read later.
