Comic for Monday, November 13th
I almost published this as September again, but then people would have made fun of me… 🙁
Now, surely, there will be no mistakes so I will seem like a smart person that’s totally on top of things. … …. ….(…the inevitable spelling/grammar error is found…) Damnit 😉
Still running pen to publish unfortunately. At this point, it’s going to be that way till the break, as there’s only one more page before then 🙁 Keep in mind, there will be some content during the break! I’ll be publishing Minus Years, so currently my priority is, finish the 16th’s comic, finish Minus Years (prequel comic, part 2) that will run 20th, 23rd, 27th, and 30th, and then back to regularly scheduled updates.
Unfortunately, either way, there shouldn’t be any updates missed, I’ll just publish at a rate depending on how much I have ready. Not really the spot in the plot/story I wanted to take a break, but what will be will be, I am pretty sure I can’t make good enough pages on my Surface (mobile tablet). Hopefully still can make something for at least Patreon, as I feel really bad about little content has been there this month as is – if you are a patron, or have considered being a patron, please feel free to give me suggestions of the sort of thing that’d you’d like to see there – I’m keenly aware I need to put more stuff there, but not always sure what to do besides the bonus comics which I have trouble getting the time to update as regularly as need be or random bonus art.
Anyway… as for the page.. I am working on being more deliberate in including the names of characters on their introductions, especially as I don’t think we have the name for either of the people in the last panel yet… 😐
Speaking of which, I hope it’s apparent, but this person in the second to last panel – while being named Otte – is not Nicholas Otte who’ve seen before. That said, the fact that his name also has Otte in it is, not, shall we say, a coincidence. I figured I should clarify because the art shift since the last time we’ve seen Nick Otte has been… significant 😐

So I had a bunch of time on my hands and read from comic 1 through the current one and was stunned at how much PastUtopia has this planned out. Rici is Colonel Rici head of Situational Containment (Monster Hunters) which Miko name dropped back during the blow up Avon story. Tyler’s power is a kinetic field if Nick Otte is to be believed back in the Second Subway Fight and Mym is the ultimate troll in many many places.
It is why so many of us really like this story. (Even those of us who were there when the art wasn’t…) The intricacy of this world is awesome. The depth of interaction far reaching. And you can really get the feeling that Peter has been planning this for a long time.
Peter was setting up this conflict from the start of the comic. There is no other reason to stop SPECIFIC transdimensional gates, except to annoy someone into action.
Yeah, in my opinion if PastUtopia ever makes another comic it will be a mainstream hit (for a webcomic). As a world/setting and plot this stacks up to some of the better pieces modern fantasy/scifi/comics. I have tried to get my friends into this one but you really do need to read the first couple hundred pages to follow along and that can be hard if you are not used to webcomics.
The art got fine (or even good), the writing got great, and the worldbuilding started great.

You still have a grammar mistake. Panel 3 “…what exactly am I do to if…” should be “…what exactly am I to do if…”. You have ‘to’ and ‘do’ switched around.

I adore the “since when is betting against a Kepler wise?” You’ve got a Kepler on each side. They’re not necessarily opposing each other, but it does basically mean by your own expectations you are royally screwed in any direction. (And that’s before you consider the “princess or something” could be the one kicking your ass.)
We demand fair and equitable redistribution of the Keplers. No faction should go without Keplers! A Kepler in every pot! Err… That got odd fast.

We have a fair idea of what Tyler can do even if we may not have seen him use his full power yet, but Sophie and the “Princess” are complete unknowns. I’m more than normally interested in what happens there, next.
Judging from the last panel, this is not Sophie herself, but her sidekick that we have always seen following her around. She endeared herself to me in her first appearance by calling the David’s men morons for attacking Kally.
From the few things she has said, I think there is a good chance she is another “witch”, but I am not really sure that means something besides “natural mage”.
She is also the same one that threatened to attack the Consul and the basically everyone else in the middle of the summit, and Sophie seemed to imply that was not actually an entirely unreasonable idea and had to be talked into just walking out by Tokiwa.
I looked around, but I cannot find the name of this character, so I will just call her “Sophie’s Pet Witch” for now, to match “Sophie’s Pet Demon” (Atter).
I swear her name is out there somewhere. I bet it will be soon if it wasn’t already…
I am not sure what I think about a “princess” who fights with rainbows. I know that she is not actually a princess, but I can’t help but think @PastUtopia is screwing with us here.
On the flip side, you made Otte the Elder (presumably) look like a villain at a hundred paces. There has never been a character (including Mir) who looked more obviously like a villain. That’s impressive.
Going to be honest, hadn’t thought of that.
poor karov, stuck between ids hq, arron, and peter. no matter which way he jumps its going to be wrong.
tho i think the cat fight in the last panel has the best potential, sophie vs… purple. idk i think i should be pulling for purple girl, but should i?
And someone is giving him advice of just CALL the people and ask what they want. A glorious option if it wasn’t for Peter. Because he hasn’t told anyone what he really wants so far. Just… what he wants them to do in the next, oh 50 minutes.
Also seems Arron is the latest in a long line of historic victors. INTERESTING…
Or Arron has just won a lot. History may not refer back past the Incursion, the war of which Arron (and likely Kyle, and maybe the unnamed third Kepler) was a Hero of. If you had a war that destroyed most of the world, the guy larger than life characters of it would likely be a lot of “history” even if it wasn’t that long ago.
Keep in mind that Arron is basically considered to be retired already when his working as an IDS Director, and his brother at very least a big shot.
The really interesting thing here is that he says third contact war. If we assume The Incursion was the First Contact War… what was the second one??
hmm yes third war, several options, inital contact was the first, a small break (somewhat like the 100 years war, which was more of a series of interconnected wars) and then the second war was pushing kor out.
or one of the other dimentions fought back quickly when the ids tried to infiltrate them. as the lore states theres kor’s world, central, palindra, a possible 4th world, a bunch of “uninhabitable/no civilization”, a few with a “dont go to this world at all” which may suggest either a civilized world(s) or ones with some natural (or unnatural) hazard.

Panel 1: Older Guy 2(Karov?): “the world THE changes” should be “the world changes”
Panel 3: “split down the seam” perhaps should be “split down the SEAMS”
Panel 3: “try to dispose me yourself” … maybe “try to dispose OF me yourself” or “try to DEPOSE me yourself” or “try to REMOVE me yourself” … Not entirely sure what the best choice of wording and phrasing would be.
Panel 8: Sophie 1: “Is it really okay for to die pointlessly here?” should probably be “Is it really okay for YOU to die pointlessly here?”
