Comic for Monday, January 29th, 2018
Man, my art style must have changed a lot since we last saw Nick Otte. He looks like an entirely different person.
So I’ve been really remiss on getting the next goal up on Patreon, and amazingly we are getting close to $150, and that well, that sort of has to be a milestone, right? So we need a new goal ASAP; what sort of things would you guys like to see? I’m not forgetting I’m a little in debt from the last one still, but we need something there as I’m going to feel like a heel if we hit a major milestone like that without a goal…
Could continue more pages of Minus Years, or maybe some other bonus comic incentive, or anything else, really, just need to think it up, or get a good suggestion for something. Seriously though, thanks to everyone that supported on Patreon; it means the world to me and the comic. I’ll keep trying to make sure it’s something that merits the support.
Paneling was all over the place on this one. Top half is almost like real comic paneling, and the second half devolves into… ah… the sort of panelling you’ll only see here, or, you know, when proper paneling fell down a flight of stairs and broke.
In other news, I need to go to the dentist due a minor revolt of one of my teeth (not sure what it’s problem is) but am squabbling with insurance companies. My company swapped providers, effective the first, and the new one still hasn’t sent out ID cards for the dental and vision. Arguing with insurance companies is fun, least this way actually going to the dentist won’t be the least pleasant step of the experience – that’s just goring your gums with sharp objects and drills and things, miles ahead of insurance companies (unless they are the ones that are my clients for work and are somehow reading this… in this case… uh… no, you’re fine. I’m… uh, talking about the rest of them! 😉 )
Was rereading this page (because it makes sense to read this one and the next one together)… and noticed that I didn’t notice that Mium says:
“I think you’ll figure out if…”
but my brain was para-phrasing it to:
“I think you’ll figure it out if…”
which is what I assume it should say?
Page’ll be up end of day Thursday, rather than end of day today. At this point that’s almost like… expected. 😉
Actually thought it’d be one time, but it was less done than I remembered when I got to it tonight. I am working on a bit of a personal schedule overhaul that should free up some more time, but I’m aware I always say that 😀
When the security clearance to even know you exist is too high for people to even know exists.
Which, you know, if you’re so important that the guy isn’t even supposed to acknowledge your existence, then if he follows the instructions given by the computer (and “not see” him), he certainly can claim that he officially never saw anyone go in.
(Also, you know, Tyler…..I don’t think being Peter is just being that sure that you aren’t the one making the mistake…actually not being the one making a mistake (with a track record for that being the case, too) probably helps.)
I’m not sure why but this Nick looks like peter with different color hair to me………hmm
Tyler’s spot as the foil of Peter is probably going to bite him really hard here. Peter does the right thing for the wrong reason all the time, which leaves Tyler to do the wrong thing for the right reason.
I am going to be so unhappy if you kill off Tyler…
I suspect Marc is very bad news right now. Marc has some allegiance to the rogue families that reject that Consul’s rule of Malsa (or reject the notion that the Families do not rule anymore). There are some Families helping PACT, who is allied with the IDS, as some sort of mercenaries. Philosophically these groups are diametrically opposed, but the do have a mutual enemy, and, more than that, Varkim noted that war would elevate the status of the families again as they provide a lot of the combat ready mages. It is not hard to imagine that the rogue families and the family mercenaries are in fact one and the same.
Plus, with designer children it would be impossible to tell, but it is also notable that Marc and the blue-teleport girl look remarkably similar.
> I suspect Marc is very bad news right now.
I actually suspect the opposite. Mark suspects or knows there are members of the families there, but doesn’t want his friend to die.
I believe Tyler will not die… well, not right now.
I also believe there is much embarrassment for marc as he tries to not explain why his sister is trying to kill/avoid killing him.
And Tyler exclaims, “Your sister knows how to teleport? And when were you going to…”
If the existence of special agents is truly over the secretary’s clearance, Otte should get into trouble for letting him handle the card.
I am going to go ahead and make a wild guess here that is not actually Otte.
Based on:
a) What you say.
b) @PastUtopia’s comment on the commentary/hover text.
c) Nick Otte doesn’t have blue eyes.
d) I am pretty sure that’s Mium.
Basically, that Nick Otte will probably get in trouble for this is just an added bonus to Mium I suspect.
Preposterous and outrageous accusations.
😮
Honestly I don’t know who’s the larger troll. Peter or Mium. Peter has his annoying gambits, but Mium will do things like this and literally says things like “inevitable betrayal” in a friendly letter.
I’m looking forward to what comes next.
I missed that at first. And with the italics, it wasn’t exactly subtle. Bah.
Oh, and “Nick Otte” has a pretty nice tie, too, don’t you think?
Wait. Wait, wait, wait. If that is Mium, does that mean the girl with him is Naomi? Does Naomi have black hair now? This is a world shattering event. I don’t know how I feel about this. This will take some time to process.
Black hair die that can just be washed out isn’t exactly hard to buy. The real reason we never see actors do it when going undercover is because it makes things harder for the audience.
PastUtopia’s choice of making the shirt and tie color match her normal hair means it will be easy for us to keep track of her.
@Ferrus: Mium, whether in the person of F8 or F5 quirks his eyebrows differently, and they ride higher above his eyes. Peter, on the other hand….
@Gok2Gud: The girl with Not-Otte is more slightly built than Naomi, and looks pretty worried, an emotion that Naomi rarely feels. On the other hand (again) Kally is the perfect size and temperament for the part. 🙂
I think Ferrus is right. You can actually see part of his eye in panel 7, and it matches Mium’s color. He could fake that, but that seems like overkill when already have blue eyes. Also the ties match Mium’s scarf and Naomi’s typically hair color, as @EmperorArthur notes.
That said, he is definitely not acting like Mium, which is curious, so I am not actually sure.
I wouldn’t be shocked if it is Mium and Naomi, but I’m suspicious that it is Peter and Amy. Amy seems approximately the right build, skin tone, and eye color. Why Peter would bring her? Dunno, but she would have been part of his calculations in accepting Tyler’s offer.
Assuming you’re 100% right, Otte should get in trouble for letting the imposter handle his card.
I doubt there was a permission involved there.
I know how you feel when it comes to dentists and insurances.
I makes me almost nostalgic for an argument I had with the IRS a few years ago over if I existed or not.
I mean, at least an argument like THAT makes for a good story…
That sounds like a strange argument. Why did the care? Were they refusing to take your taxes???
It is a long complicated story (as all that start, end, or contain anywhere within them the combination of letters “IRS” are); but alas, no. The really short version… they were refusing to accept my return amendment despite cashing the check for it; i.e., the cashed the check, and then essentially told me my amendment couldn’t be processed because I wasn’t in the system.
The IRS is notorious for cashing any check that comes to their address, even if it’s clearly marked as not for them. Or addressed to someone else but the USPS screwed up and delivered it to them. There was once a story on 60 minutes where they listed a guy getting back a refund that matched his zip-code, and when he reported it to the IRS, got a letter back saying “you owe this amount.” Another had a guy send a check to HIS MORTGAGE COMPANY and it was clearly addressed as such. When he spoke to his mortgage company after receiving a notice that they hadn’t received his check, he stopped payment, only to get a notice from the IRS that he now owes them an amount THAT MATCHES HIS MORTGAGE PAYMENT, and he gets the cancelled check back from the bank… that shows the IRS cashed it, despite being clearly labelled for the Mortgage company, and “corrected” his account rather than their own books to cover the discrepancy…
