Comic for Monday, February 8th
…and after our brief Friday mishap we are back to magical tennis.
To be honest I cutting between the tennis match and Miko was probably one of those ideas that seemed slightly better in the planning stage. The tennis match is very low information density but with a lot of action scenes, while Miko’s scene is the exactly opposite. I’m still not sure it’s a bad idea, but it seems sort of arbitrary the way it ended up so far š
I’ll apologize for Friday’s missed comic; I don’t know if we’ll do 2 or three this week. I was previously optimistic, but we are already behind schedule š Was busy with certification stuff for work over the weekend, trying to slog through all this now and should have more time later. Unfortunately there is a lot more slogging to go. Still, a few weeks (which seems like a long time) and we should be through this and getting toward where work can be properly stuffed in it’s box.
The page probably skips a lot of panels, but I couldn’t go at 2 pages per point for the whole match… š
I imagine they will have to bring some flashier moves to the table though, with it being tied up still… š
I don’t get how kally scored her second point
would somebody explain me?
The ball stays on Naomi’s side of the court longer then limit; Kally (like with the last point) changed the form of the ball, using some effect to make it not fall on Naomi’s side of the court at all.
Unfortunately these two points are more or less fast forwarded – there is no real way you’d know that from the page, or why she doesn’t simply do it again for the next point – ultimately I decided these points were less interesting to detail then previous of future ones, and there is only so many pages even I can spend on a magic tennis match š
Game strategy: You don’t want to reveal your best moves too early, because you may give your opponent a chance to come up with an effective counter for them. On the other hand, you don’t wan’t to get too far behind, either. It’s a delicate balance. š
And, when you get right down to it, the changing score is more important than the actual play–and less labor (and page) intensive.
A clarification: Is it the first to score five points, or the best of five points?
And it looks like Naomi’s getting serious. O.o
It’s first to five points. If I were a smarter person, I’d have made it out of five. I think some people plan how things work in the comic with the thought that they will then have to write them later in mind… I don’t really. I just sort of plan how things should work, then try to figure out how to write it š
I think Naomi was a bit perturbed by the second lost point. Play tricks on Naomis at your own risk.
This page was sort of intended as a “while we were away” page – I dunno. It’s not like we’ll fast forward through the next point š
