Comic. Just about the time you’d given up on my uploading one.
The speech bubble coloring is a little odd. I considered doing it throughout the whole page as it would make it more obvious which color was who, but that ended up a little busy/annoying to read in my opinion, so I did the more minimal one. Ultimately, it’s more like a “clue” than a “key”, since there’s not really any point that it’s important and not already obvious. It’s tricky because I typically do it by eye color, and hair color after eye color if they have the same eye color, but in this page there’s 5 people with blue eyes, 2 of whom have blue hair, and blond (Tyler) looks a like orange (Ila) when the color is faded, so the only people it’s really obvious with is Naomi and Kally.
Regarding Eliana and Ila’s side conversation on flying, Eliana is right, in the since that how most people (Ila included) fly is just by flinging themselves through the air with magic – even Kally did that when she was flying without her dragon. But for Ila is good at stacking calculations, and good at weight calculations, so making her self float and then drift at walking speed isn’t that hard, though way harder than walking down stairs like a normal person. Eliana’s tactic here is similar to what Kally did to get on the rooftop. Making an ethereal construct and move it about is one of the easier ways to fly, though it’s a lot harder than just making. Moving them short distances relative to you is easier than moving them long distances with you in the frame of reference, since you cannot simply calculate where it is in relation to you – that’s why most people tend to stand relatively still while using them. Red ones are a lot easier to use this way, though a lot harder to make.
Anyway, I’ll post this without rambling further as its already late.
@past
Grammer fix in the commentary ….
“Eliana is right, in the since that how…”
should be
“Eliana is right, in the sEnce that how…”
Since is time, Sense is feeling or perception
Usage in the comic is okay. Definitions may vary from region or country. Google search returns the following. See 2. under conjunction.
since
preposition
in the intervening period between (the time mentioned) and the time under consideration, typically the present.
“she hasn’t spoken to him since last year”
conjunction
1.
from a time in the past until the time under consideration, typically the present.
“I’ve felt better since I’ve been here”
2.
for the reason that; because.
“delegates were delighted, since better protection of rhino reserves will help protect other rare species”
adverb
1.
between then and now.
“she ran away on Friday and we haven’t seen her since”
2.
ago.
“the settlement had vanished long since”
That example isn’t “in the since” though, and I don’t think “in the since that” is a phrase anywhere (although the correction should be “sense” rather than “sence”)
Reading the commentary again, “sense” would be the better choice.
Also, “in the since that how” could be “in the SENSE that IS how”.
Alternatively, “in the since that how” could be phrased as ” since that is how”.
BTW, I’ve never seen the word “sence” before. Google says it is an archaic form of sense but that may be a regional.contry usage.
So, there are several options using either sense or since.
I meant sense. I suffer from my own typo issues. One of the reasons I basically read/write everything with a spoken subjective view. That time I hit post before my usual second read through and didn’t catch the mistake. Sometimes if I’m on my phone like right now I can use speech-to-fail, but that is only useful if the sentence I’m creating doesn’t have any homophones. It’s entirely possible that the mistaken word was added by Google, or by me after being frustrated with the correct homophone not being detected.
@SeanR I think the light blue one would actually be Eliana, given the very short sentences (which we’ve seen from her) while trying to be polite. The yellowish- peach one is almost certainly Ila, who’s much more inclined to brag about the things she can do and having a bit of an ego about it.
I’m pretty sure it’s Miko and Peter talking in the green and blue bubbles, respectively. Miko has an implant that helps her live a normal life, so one would THINK she’d be more understanding of Eliana, who is normally wheelchair-bound, but then Miko is pretty dismissive of everyone.
Tan and pink would be Tyler and Naomi, respectively. He’s asking her, again, if maybe she should dye her hair back to purple, to be in compliance with the laws on “designer children”.
Light blue and peach would be Mium and Ila, with Mium encouraging Ila to be more discreet by praising her ability to do the less reality-breaking form of hovering, over the ICBM-racing form of flying she’s come to be known for, and Ila blowing it off.
Miko used to be in a wheelchair thanks to “the Kepler tradition of weaponizing their children”. Peter fixed it by integrating Query (now Mium/M.Y.M.) into her cybernetics. And yes, she should be more sympathetic towards Eliana but Miko hates everyone equally.
Light blue and peach was Eliana praising Ila for her skill and Ila missing the point
What amuses me the most about Tyler and Naomi’s chat, is the very buttoned down Tyler and the fairly unhinged Naomi learning how to communicate with each other. ^^
I love it! Of course Naomi’s idea of knowing someone is “have punched”! Brilliant.
Hmm? I thought that was Miko and Peter talking. Kally never seems that mean. But now I think, it is Kally and Miko, which makes so much more sense. Thank you.
Ummmm yes …. I got mixed up. Miko and Peter were talking. It is unclear just who is talking from the balcony, but Kally and Miko would be a good guess. Peter’s text bubbles have had a white background. Miko’s text bubbles have been greyish. The green looks to be Kally.
I’m pretty sure the first set of speech bubbles in that fourth panel are from Kally and Miko (Kally notices the two, Miko calls the people casting magic better than she can “show offs”), but I could be wrong.
Might I ask for a Word of God from the author on that? There seems to be a lot of confusion.
I did sort of cover this in this in the commentary blurb, but green blurb is Kally and the grey blurb is Miko. The panel before that has speech bubble tails like normal, and is Miko and Peter talking.
I knew that it wasn’t super clear who was talking in that chatter panel, but as it wasn’t critical decided to just use the color coding to give a general clue. Panels like that with the mini-text are generally just chatter conveying that different groups of people are talking.
The color coding approach generally works alright, but as noted in the commentary there’s too many overlapping colors on this page for it to work perfectly.
I like the feeling of Tyler having to re-index threats in that last panel. Simply because of how few thing Naomi has punched and not come away the better of.
Tyler’s pause and hesitation at Naomi stating that she lost to a Kor’s world soldier is understandable. However, I seem to recall Naomi ripping an arm off a Kor’s world soldier before he left the battle. That doesn’t seem to be a loss.
While Naomi has ripped off someone’s arm, that wasn’t a Kor’s World soldier, but rather the teleporter girl.
Kally has removed an arm from a Kor’s World soldier however, and if I recall correctly is the only one we’ve seen win a fight against one.
To be fair to Naomi, she might have won that fight, if the people whose building she was fighting in didn’t release a lethal poison into the air she was trying to breathe. She definitely had the Kor’s World operative on the ropes, and sweating hard, right up to that point.
When they meet again, and he tries that poison again, I foresee her informing him that tricks like that only work once on her, and then proceeding to beat him to within an inch of his life.
Unfortunately, you might be misremembering. The soldier had her temporarily restrained and was about to use lethal force against her.
Now, I doubt he’d be able to do that if he was distracted, but a 1v1 against a soldier is more like 1v1 against Mium. The soldier’s are helped by a central entity.
What’s going to be interesting is how many soldiers there are and if they can all cast at the same time.
He tied her to himself with a red ribbon. She expressed surprised that he wanted to be so CLOSE to her, (or that he would use red for something so lame as a simple ribbon), and proceeded to show him why getting into close combat with her was a VERY bad idea. He kept calling for more power, because the “native wildlife” didn’t seem to have any limits.
Then she dropped from the gas, and he decided to sample some for later.
At least, that’s how I remember it. Now to go back and see how close my recollection was.

I remember it correctly.
While reading the conversation between Weber and Naomi, I got the idea that they may become friends. Scrolling down to the next panel, Peter comments that “They’ll probably end up friends.” I have ESP!!!
A bit of attention is required to associate the text bubbles in panel 4 but not overly much. I’m guessing that some of the crew are on an escalator since it would be quite a stroll on stairs. Kally and Peter have a chat on the balcony but Miko doesn’t say anything. Tyler and Naomi bonding on the escalator. The heavy hitters ILA, Mium and Eliana beneath Tyler and Naomi on the escalator. Hope there are no disracted fools who stop at the bottom of the escalator and block it. ILA would probably not react kindly.
