Comic for Thursday, July 21st
So, just to clear up the business, the event mentioned previously is that I got reviewed by ‘Bad Webcomics Wiki’. As the name may suggest, their life goals do not involve flattery. Or being particularly kind. You can read it here if you want. It’s less that it’s wrong and more that it’s sort of being a dick. You can read my thoughts to it (and being reviewed in general) here:
I won’t filter out the comments there much, so if you feel the need to discuss it, head over there.
Onto the comic and onward with our lives!
Yes, Tyler totally just used magic to dry his clothes off.
Tyler claims that lawmen’s duty is to stop the guys filling body bags. If people need all their limbs is something it’s a little fuzzier on (to very loosely paraphrase a preacher from Firefly). Tyler’s attack on Otte was very likely bordering on lethal force, as he couldn’t really know Otte was boosted enough to survive that, but it was more of an impulsive accident. It can be tough being a powerful mage. If that inspires confidence or not, well, that’s up to greater judgement of the reader 😉
I have a few things I’m looking to clean up with the site, and a little project I’m hoping to work on. I don’t know when I’ll get around to most of it, but I’ll keep ya’ll posted.
As always, appreciate you reading and hope you enjoy 😉
Related Comics:
- Mione makes his jaw hurt? Ah, yeah.
- Tyler’s magic. Wait. Does two pages ago count? 😐
- I was going to link a compilation of Marc glowering, but that seemed like a lot of work. Guess he has to practice more.
Tyler definitely has upgraded in my mind to “badass” trench coat flair from runway model trench coat flair. I suspect Peter will be quite put out when he has his thinking on him similarly changed. If only I could sympathized with Peter rather than feeling ha ha smarty pants 🙂
Peter will probably have to go buy a long coat out of sheer envy. It’d be green 😐
Then again, Arron wears one sometimes, so maybe Peter’ll get one naturally when he evolves to his next level. That’s how this works, right?
Peter’s makes sympathy pretty hard. It’s probably something to due with him being a sort of a bastard 😐
I’ve been following your comic for about three months now and just read your comments on this page. First: I had no idea a site like that even existed. Secondly, I will not go to their site for any reason whatsoever as doing so would that they succeeded in getting people to visit their site and made a small amount of money from adds. I would recomend that other people do the same.
Third: The only criticism of your work that crosses my mind is the confusing nature of the plot and world. But that confusion is part of what makes this comic interesting. I think it may too confusing at times(especially at the very begining), but it is still very worth it.
Fourth: … uh… Keep up the good work!
Really appreciate the comment and the feedback!
I did consider just ignoring it (the review), but I felt it better to address it out in the open where people could discuss and get it out of their system (me included 😉 ).
I definitely hear the feedback about nature of the plot and the world. I think it’s a fine between interesting and confusing, and it’s a line I think I wander back and forth of occasionally. This is definitely a learning experience for me as I refine delivery, and am always very welcoming of feedback.
I guess by default I write more like encyclopedia entries then comic pages, so we have to take it from very long, detailed and boring to concise and interesting with every page 😀
First things first, I am sorry for this very large comment.
I have three things I want to say.
1:Good? Bad? No, I’m the guy with the ice powers.
2:Catching something by the HEAD and NOT the TAIL is also good in other lines of work like snake wrangling, especially when it come to things like rattlers, vipers, black mambas, etc… I say this because if you can get behind them and you can do it and are fast enough you can stop them from biting you. It is not easy or common but it is possible, only because you can trick your brain into producing large amounts of adrenaline before hand to help you. The method is something that has been described to me by a snake wrangler and a fire fighter. Despite common belief in a lot of jobs that are life threatening adrenaline is produced by the body almost constantly with different uses. Surgeons brains produce it in small but efficient doses, law enforcement brains produce it quickly and effectively in a gun fight, the same as with soldiers, etc…
And finally 3:the moment I saw this power my mind went straight to skyrim’s blizzard, frost, or ice, storm and the frost cloak. I was talking in my comment about wanting to see Tyler riding a bike across the water was indeed a reference to One Piece’s Admiral Aokigi, however all he would have to do is freeze the lake in a sphere around him, which judging by the distance you gave us, is more that enough to support the weight of a person riding a bicycle across said ice. I say this from a physics perspective. Although I am basing this on the premise that he can do it in a spherical range and not a 180/360 degree(my keyboard does not have a degree symbol apparently) field. Also if it is about concentration all you would need to do is have the ice behind you break apart, which if you ride a bike fast enough and assuming we are talking about an environment that is not a rapidly flowing river it is simple if you get the momentum and reduce the drag. Again I am saying from a physics point of view, which by the previous argument, call me an idiot or a joke for this, but with enough speed, momentum, and with a small air resistance and a small surface of contact you could drive a motorcycle across a body of water, not a huge one like Loch Ness, the Atlantic, or even a large lake.
I think we came to a satisfactory conclusion in the last comments section that he could almost certainly ride a bike across water with his power… 😛 Well, assuming he can ride a bike on ice, which make itself be a tricky skill set to build or require specialized bikes… Of course, considering we are playing with magic here, there still might be easier ways 🙂
I imagine there are certain similarities between being a lawman and a snake wrangler… 😉 I’d say at the heart of the claim is that it’s better to deal with the source then the effect, which is pretty much always true. Though as his next line shows, frequently he’s stuck stamping out the fires rather then following that advice 😀
*looks around confused* I am… FIRST! FIRST!
sorry had to be done.
man that guy had the worst job! boring guard duty straight into being fodder to show off tyler’s new power! ^^
New power? I doubt this is something he could not do before. Rather, I think we haven’t seen him use it before because a) we haven’t had a lot of opportunity to see him in action and b) I’m guessing that this is just Tyler getting serious for a change (i.e., pulling out the proverbial big guns). Or, maybe he just finds this spell useful to this environment or situation?
Myself, I’m waiting to see what his deputies can do. Because, right now, it looks like Tyler’s spellwork is all that’s needed.
and more than slightly pissed.
it seems that he has sveral things he absolutly hates going on here:
avon, random crazy mages (x2, may be more), and random crazy ppl killing lots of other ppl (who since they work for avon might be crazy themselves. but also random possible innocents)
all of which is going on in “his” town, and in his jurisdiction.
not going to look good in the anual efficancy report to the bosses.
It’s not really been Tyler’s favorite day, has it? Ground zero of whole detonating conspiracy in his country.
He’s in it deep now one way or another.
Yeah, I don’t think this is a new power. I think (and this may be due to art style drift since it was near the start) that Tyler was actually using this power way back HERE. Can’t be sure, but I think that’s probably the same power.
Good catch! I thought it was simply a force field when I saw it back then.
Yeah… I’m fairly certain you’re right. In my defense, that was a long time ago… 😛
