Comic for Monday, October 9th
Unfortunately this unhappy page comes with some bad news – there will be no update on Thursday this week. I’m going to take the day off and try to get the page back to buffered and take a bit of a break.
With this being the end of Chapter, it seemed like a good point to take a pause, catch breath, and deal with some stuff, been a bit busy with things, my last weekend was lost to some unrelated to comic stuff, and not feeling great.
I’ll put up something as far as bonus art, etc. Maybe a Minus Years page for Patreons. Something and somethings. Probably the first few costumes – if you got more suggestions, feel free to add them to the list. Got a good few so far, but more the merrier.
Anyway, I’ll be around in comments and we’ll back back next chapter next week (all things considered, not too long a wait π )
I refuse to let you apologize for my idea for a costume π IT’S EPIC!!
At least we know why when Peter breaks into this universe he kills everyone.
I think you still have Peter as Sherlock Holmes left over from last year’s costume suggestions.
Probably not quite what was expected, but…

Thursday comic it is.
Enjoy a breather! Get a half a comic in the stack.
…huh. I did laugh the dialogue, so there’s that.
You know I have to wonder, does Peter know enough that everything everyone does seems stupid to him (or at least the bits that aren’t perfectly planned for), thereby nessecitating those qualifiers in panel 4, or is that just how far off the deep end Peter thinks Weber just went?
Man, he really makes it sound like Peter’s the interim, while not actually giving him his own position. But hey, that does seem appropriate. Kick out IDS, have former/rogue IDS agent do their job instead. Wonder how well that would work out. (I expect someone in IDS to suspect him of setting that up on purpose, too.)
He could also route all the choice bits he thinks his favorite IDS branch could use to them.
Poor Emmi. (I feel bad for having to look up who she was, too…)
In other news, it sounds like the fan got hit. Big pile, steaming. (Hoo boy…..)
It is up to interpretation I suppose, but when Tyler says “not giving MY job” he saying that what the job is will not be what he did, not that he is not offering Peter the interim leader position.
I do find it interesting that we have a call back to the very first page with the whirlpool virus. I also find it interesting that Tyler knows enough to about it to guess that Peter might not want it investigated. I do not think we know more than that the IDS thought Peter was a suspect, and that worried Kally and Arron to some degree.
This also makes it seem likely the theory that Avon somehow got a piece of Kor’s World tech is true. This would explain why Peter was involved with them. This would let Peter get his hands on whatever they have, without Mir being able to kill him.
Not that Mir seems like a particularly large threat to Peter at the best of times. I still want to know if Peter is Dr. Martin or if that was a different person entirely.
Am I reading this right, in that peter would be the Malsa official dealing with Avon? He’s #1 on Mir’s hit list. That’s hilarious. Oh, and he’d probably be walking around with Mium, just to rub salt in the wound.
The best part is upper management probably doesn’t even know who he is.
It’s probably bad of me, but I don’t recognize the corpse in the last panels. Nor am I sure who the speaker is. Can anybody please enlighten/remind me?
She is Emmi Esk, Arron’s second in command, and leader of the covert ops for IDS CI. She is the one that reports Mium sitting on the skyscrapper watching them break into Peter’s fake address, joins Arron in convincing Kally to go to Levenworth, and was one of the people drafted by Nick Otte in his raid on Levenworth. She ended up attacking the Kor’s World Soldier (ineffectively), and Naomi (somewhat effectively, but probably only did not get dismembered for it because Peter stopped Naomi). She also went to the Consul’s summit meeting with Arron.
She is described as something of friend/mentor to Kally on the cast page. She appears in Minus Years having been in IDS CI before Kally at least.
This is pretty rough. She was one of the people that was there when Biana told Arron that he was going to get his agents killed if he kept interfering, after which Arron said he would end her existence with the fury of a dozen hellfires if she did (paraphrased).
RIP Emmi Esk, may your passing bring great vengeance down on your killers.
In other words, from a general central perspective, there are two Keplers and Kally who are now pissed at them, and both are staying in/working for the country that just declared war on their puppet nation.
Oh, and one of central’s primary goals was to relocate thousands of people there before this all started.
You have to wonder at what point does a higher level of government step in and go “we dun goofed.”
Yes, Central was pushing hard to relocated thousands to Malsa. Arron was shocked at the numbers and their timetable and complained about it.
But governments do not admit “we dun goofed” to the public. They either quietly sweep it under the rug or they throw a scapegoat under the bus.
I’m also surprised that Central hasn’t done anything to Biana or Sophie yet – not even a scolding (that we’ve seen). Biana must have some friends in high places. But, if she screws up badly enough, I don’t think that would be enough to save her hide.
A few pages ago Sophie said that greater government was mostly just going to stay out of it until it became clear whose solution was going to work. As I can see, it Arron wants peaceful integration with the locals, convincing them to take on Central refugees, Biana wants to start a war, transferring them from “overseeing” to “basically ruling”, so they can do whatever they want.
The government (Central Command, Civil Service? Not sure who runs the show), seems to only really care about the end point.
you forgot that you have 2 keplers and 2 summers (and, as minions to one kepler, a naomi, an ef-10, and a virus person). i would hate to see it when they team up and decide someone really really has to die.
Very likely, the speaker is Nathan. He is the one who seemed to (already) have a bone to pick with Atter (and visa versa, from what Atter told Peter). He’s also the one who we’ve just seen fighting Atter’s constructs. And I think he has at least a decent chance of ending him if it comes down to a one-to-one fight to the death. The page for September 21st has Arron say that he has two minions that quote, “bat outside of their job title”. The first he talks about is Nathan, while the second sounds like Kallisto.
I had assumed the speaker was Arron, but Nathan makes more sense.
hey take a break man, no worries. It’s obvious that you’re having some trouble, this page’s art is definitely rushed compared to the last few (no offense). Take your time. Still great comic, will kill me if you burn out.
Yeah. We’ll wait. Not patiently, but we’ll wait.
To be honest, I am impressed by the amount, consistency, and quality of the updates across literally years of comics. Most comics that update like this are either the full time job of the creator or update “strips” instead of pages, and these pages are gigantic, with a lot panels and words.
So yes, I will wait. Patiently even. Does not mean I will not refresh the page every five minutes as Monday comes close.
I was very much hoping for a spit-take from Peter. Glad to not be disappointed.
And to the second half of this page: aw. First in-comic death, I believe. As the saying goes, “shit just got real.” I guess we’re kind of phasing out of the “golden-age super-hero” part of this comic, where nobody actually gets harmed at the end of the day.
I suppose Atter killed her before going to Nathan, as he was going through targets close to Arron. Although I suppose he could have killed her running away, too; I suspect Mium would have tried to protect her then, though.
I mean, it has been strongly implied that Rovak has killed a bunch of people, Tyler references it here, and you can actually see a body in the background here.
That said, definitely the first named character to die. I reckon it was simultaneous with the other attacks. We saw that Atter’s monsters can be in multiple places at once. The Mium/Atter fight was happening at the same time as the Naomi&Nathan/Monster fight, as seen when Naomi sees the explosion. Also, Mium does not really show much inclination to save people that are not on his list, and Emmi Esk might not have been. She’s friends with Kally, but did not seem close to Peter particularly.
I suppose I should say “first character who we saw both alive and dead?” Slightly stronger than “named character,” I think.
I was originally thinking along the lines of “died on-screen,” but that didn’t happen here and it’s kinda happened before (in explosions), so I had to shift slightly. Still seems to be a tone shift, though. “First death to have any focus,” perhaps?
For Mium: It was more that I suspected that Mium would have some degree of “immediate damage control” wired in, so if Mium was there then she wouldn’t have died. That said, one of his constructs probably did it (as another secondary target), so yes, sounds reasonable.
The first on-screen death is probably the sniper on my namelink page.
Yes, exactly. I never viewed Rovak’s explosion power as non-lethal.
Not just Rovak’s explosion power, I suspect. http://pastutopia.com/?comic=comic-for-thursday-july-13th
Did anyone die in the Kor’s world attack? I didn’t hear it referenced, so perhaps not, but that seems like the kind of thing that would have some casualties…
To be honest, I’m personally not a big fan of killing characters, unfortunately, sometimes it’s not up to me and some psycho character goes off and offs one. Crazy bastards.
Unfortunately, being in the IDS – or any of the organizations of the comic, really – is not really a very safe job.
panel 9: So clever that they’ve found
This is now a war zone
Fixed, thanks π
Panel 6: Not the good guy in your little fairy tale
Panel 9: This is now a war zone
Goodbye Emmi, we hardly knew ye. Nathan, kick Atter’s arse.
Into the sun.
Fixed, thanks π
Panel 5: “I’m sorry, but it just occurred to me that you implied something UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, and INCOMPREHENSIBLY stupid.” Panel 6: “I don’t know how to explain this to you Webber, but i am NOT the good guy in your little fairy tale.”
Fixed, thanks π
you’re welcome, but you forgot Panel 5.
Haha, apparently there were two problems in the panel. The first time I added the “that”. I couldn’t figure out what the second one was from this comment, so I ended up copy pasting the sentence you typed, and then undoing and redoing until I could spot the difference π Okay, so maybe I’m really bad at this grammar stuff π
Thanks again π
it’s ok man. you’re welcome.
