Comic for Monday, August 6, 2018
’tis the half page fare, not sure if Thursday will be half a page or not. I was planning on it, but maybe it doesn’t work as well as a half page, idk. I was hoping to finish it today, but didn’t end up with a lot of time, and now I have to do work-stuff for tomorrow. Still, we are sort of head of schedule, this comic was a whole day early.
At this point the wiki is developed enough I figured I can replace the information along the menu bars at the top with just a link to the wiki. If I put up more general information, I will just put it onto the wiki. I think the next lore thing I will will talk about is more stuff on how magic is typically used, as it’s all quite systematic but would probably be a little tedious to explain in much depth in the comic itself. We’ll see.
The cast pages have also been removed and replaced with the Wiki version; the cast page on the wiki even has the most updated version of the cast height chart.
I really appreciate everyone who’s chipped in helped populate out the wiki, it’s pretty cool. I think it will be a fun thing going forward as some people really quite seem to enjoy the rabbit hole known as lore and setting information, so at some point I would like to expend the repository of such things there to be a warren fit for the most inquisitive of rabbits.
I also wasted more time than I probably should have making this; an ad that will run on the TopWebcomicsPage, as it’s about time to audit the various metrics again, and that’s one of the few ad platforms even left. Animated ads are all the range there, but I’m just an old fashioned low tech person, so it’s all a little beyond me. I had to good how to actually make a .gif… I probably should have used flash or something, but I don’t think I have Flash installed anymore. Hey, there’s a reason that sort of shit is usually handled by marketing departments… I barely count as an artist, certainly not an animator or graphic designer. I think it started as a good idea, but ended up being a medicore execution due to the limitations of gif compression (or at least, my intelligence in being able how to compress a gif). I think most actual professional animated ads are not actually just gifs. Originally I wanted to make the hair move too, but that was just too complicated.
Hey guys… comic will be up tomorrow… not sure when, probably not too late. It’s actually mostly done but I need to do more work stuff, so I have leave it where it is for now…
I was perfectly on time, but then decided to do a full page instead of half a page… didn’t not work out for me. I should know better, but… yeah… 😉
hey it’s ok. I still love the comic anyway. take your time to finish your day job, and we’ll wait for the next page. there’s no rush.
I know you don’t usually edit rambles, let alone comments, but: I assume the double-negative said the exact opposite of what you meant to say? (It “didn’t not work out”)
Day jobs suck. Reading Dilbert helps a little. Reading PastUtopia helps more. 😉
Dude, we love you, but you seem to need to be protected from yourself. ^^
Awesome, maybe I’ll be able to manage to get the transcript for this page up before you get it out still. 😉
The ad need to less dystopian…
Naomi’s stated cause is to “Save the World.” During the time she was absent from the Academy, (Presumably she met Peter during that time,) She learned “The world is in more need of saving then I thought.” I’d assume that she quit school, went out to do good, met Peter, and in the process stumbled onto… something BIG, which Peter was already looking into. I believe Naomi wants her world safe, and Peter’s game has much higher stakes than just one world. Malsa is his chosen ground right now (I’m assuming this choice was influenced by Naomi joining him) but I get the uneasy feeling that all these conflicting organizations and countries we’ve seen so far are just pieces on the board that Peter is trying to maneuver onto his side in order to deal with something else. He has rarely been caught off guard by events, so, with the exception of Kor’s world, I’m worried we haven’t seen many actual major opposing players.
It IS interesting when you turn the decision to direct action back onto the person requesting it be done. Some will jump on the opportunity. Some will panic and not want the responsibility they demanded others take, even though they literally are just doing what they would have asked another to do.
Also, I am amused by the fact that your half-pages seem to still suffer the curse you lamented last time you did them: they have just as much content as your full pages!
If we read the subtext of @Kldran’s interpretation (below) this is pretty interesting. Naomi was essentially looking to offload the high level moral responsibility of how to handle “should nations be allowed to have war” with her low level concern “I should protect my friends”. If Peter stopped the war to save Naomi’s friends, Naomi’s hands were clean of whatever the ramification of stopping the war would be.
Peter, if he really intends Naomi to be a moral sounding board for Mium (I am not sure this is the case, just thinking of this in the context of Kldran’s comment) cannot take that up, as that sort of defeats the purpose. Mium is the last person that needs lessons in loopholes to moral logic.
Good call on the Flash. I like you, and it would have broke my heart to have to hunt you down.
Ad graphic looks good.
Yes GIF good. flash bad. And very annoyingly Flash is integrated into Windows 10 and you can’t uninstall it. Flashes buggy and outdated and extremely prone to being hijacked.
That’s interesting. Adobe has announced end of life for flash as end of 2020.

The wiki is really cool!! That is awesome!
I know that PastUtopia has binders of stuff he could put on there….. I have seen them existing……… do it…………!
Shush you.
It’s simply astounding how you can have nonsense like “Try not to ash any nations while I’m out”, and probably not be completely joking, and so offhandedly. Like it’s about to be followed up by “Want me to pick up dinner?” or something.
The more Peter and Naomi interact, the more I find myself wondering exactly what their agreement is. I wonder exactly who’s idea it it was, even. Peter seems to be somewhat ambivalent to what Naomi wants to do here, but at the same time is willing to let her interfere with his plans if she really wants to.
She probably knows well enough to not get in the way of something critical. And probably their “aims” are, in general, close enough for them to work together. (Means and morals/ethics differ, but that’s Peter and everybody, not just Peter and Naomi.) How, exactly, they met and got to be where they are, though….
…well, I suspect that wouldn’t get too in-depth in the main story, but would make a pretty sweet interlude.
There are so many interludes that we need to see though………………….
There could be another comic of just interludes……………………….
PastUtopia pls, you can quit work it is okay……………………! (j/k)
My personal theory is that Peter chose Naomi as a moral guide for Mium. Other than Naomi, the only other people Mium listens to are Miko and Peter, and Peter knows both of them are terrible at offering any sort of moral guidance (He’s repeatedly stated that he’s not a good guy). Mium is (theoretically) going to outlive Peter, so he needs to make sure Mium has a good foundation early on. This conversation feels a lot like Peter is both pointing out to Naomi, just how much power she has, and leaving her to decide for herself what the moral thing to do is.
I agree with the theory that Naomi was chosen to serve as something of a moral compass for Mium. It would not surprise me that this was the primary reason Peter got her involved. (It probably does not hurt that she’s a bada$$, too. 😉 ) But, I seem to recall a conversation suggesting this (or along those lines) in the comments some time ago.
This is something that a developing SMAI – or, really, any sort of developing or child-like sentient – needs. Moreover, they need good role models. This is why good parenting is so important.
Good guy? Rovak is a good guy. Says so on his business cards.
Where as I agree with this observation it is … Jarring to have Tyler as your avatar. I am pretty sure Tyler is not in the Pro-Rovak camp.
It would be difficult to be pro-Malsan AND a fan of Rovak.
I like Rovak. He’s got a lot to root for in a minor character. To the point where if a second comic we’re to manifest and follow a second story line, I would like to see it follow Rovak.
But I like Tyler more. Tyler is cool in so many ways, including literally.
Malsa is fine. I have nothing against it. But I am not so pro-Malsa as to make me dislike Rovak. For what it is worth, I think Rovak likes Malsa as well. Just, you know, not enough to keep him from making it go Bomm!
Heh! Can have those business cards all he likes. He’s hilarious and could be fun to hang around if you were immune to being collateral and/or damaged.
Wouldn’t call him a “great role model” though.
