Are my eyes just complaining about this image because they’re complaining about everything now? Or is Peter a bit … blurry is the wrong word. He seems to have a bit of a Peter-colored aura. I mean, even more than everything else right now, because right now my eyes kind of hate me and everything.
To be clear, my decision to read web comics right after getting back from the optometrist was a poor plan for today. Especially this comic with its white page background and everything.
No, your eyes are not deceiving you. Byzantine and Just_IDD pointed the “edging” on the most recent Peter earlier. The other Peter image has the semi-transparent projection. So, it looks like Peter has two methods to create images.
It is interesting the different “dangerous alliances” that the IDS and Kor’s world takes.
The IDS has a zero-tolerance policy for SMAIs, likely not only due to some bad experiences themselves, but also because they see these as heart of evil of Kor’s world. Meanwhile, they have a relatively tolerant policy towards demons, as we see with Sophie’s and Biana’s use of Demons.
Meanwhile, Kor’s world has a zero tolance policy towards demon’s, presumably due to some disaster with demons in the past. We don’t know if this was an internal disaster within some Kor’s world civil war, or an invader who used demons. Meanwhile, they have a very significant relationship with their AIs, which were presumably at least at one point self-modifying, given their advanced state, even if they are definitely pretty frozen now compared with Muim.
It’s worth noting that Kor’s world’s reaction to Mium was pretty swift and pretty drastic. I think the situation here may be one where they accept their own AIs but not others. In fact, I am coming to suspect that Kor’s world may be one where the AI has taken control, already, and sees demons and other AIs (like Mium) as threats. If the IDS came to know of this, that could go a long way toward explaining their aversion to SMAIs.
Another data point is how they refer to different entities. People are “native wildlife.” Demons are an “infestation”, and they at least once included Kally’s dragon in that category. Meanwhile, Mium is a “Virus Person.”
So, I think that speaks more to Kor’s world having a default response of overreacting than personhood.
Your comment actually makes me think the idea of the AI having taken over is worth thinking about. Afterall, MIUM is the only “person” that they are taking issue with; everything else is some manor of lessor thing to be wiped out at their leisure.
Then again, if they understand the nature of MIUM then they know that destroying one of his terminals won’t be lethal but just inconvenient and would reduce his options. Even cops use semi lethal force for “nonlethal” takedowns (rubber bullets, tear gas, tazers, etc) despite those things not always being completely as non-lethal as we might like. And even cops justify those unintentional deaths as being unavoidable accidents forced by the suspect’s actions that forced their hand.
Do we know that? Kally’s reaction to Mium was more “That’s extremely dangerous” and not “That’s taboo.” Which given the research we see from others on the subject and Miums ability to do whatever he wants, is not unfounded. Even without Kors world.
Peter has just taken the, in fiction, relatively novel approach of “raising” Mium with “good” roll models.
Since when could the “Purple Gorilla” speak “Fluffy”? Isn’t this kinda an important development, especially considering that Peter himself seems to lack this ability?
It might be related this plane. Naomi noted that she could see Tyler ‘leaking’ data. Naomi has been demonstrated to be able to ‘see’ magic to some extent, just not at the level of Magnolia or Mione.
Well, one thing I haven’t seen mentioned yet is this is confirmation Peter’s team has managed to hack enemy coms. We obviously can’t trust anything Peter tells anyone else but Naiomi’s poor translation proves it.
That alone is extremely impressive.
Plus, Peter taking out a SkyCarrier merely through psychological tricks is impressive. Not what he was going for, but even almost taking out a sky carrier is something few people seem to have done in story.
Peter’s “Well, shit” comment implies he hadn’t considered the self destruct scenario. Hopefully, he has some bug out contingency plan … but … maybe he is saying this to goad Gray Robot Guy to destroy the carrier.
I’m sure he would have considered the MAD scenario. Has dragon on side, will trump everything.
Often when considering outcomes, you consider the worst case scenario, have a backup plan, but don’t expect to ever need to resort to it… when it does had you still say/think “well, shit”. But don’t forget… Peter is BEHAVING the way control EXPECTS HIM TO… so the question is : is that the expected response to trick control into believing his course of action will destroy Peter??
I get the feeling peter already got off with what he needed, and this has just been a play to convince Kor’s world to destroy their own ship and hence ruin their own ability to figure out what he even took, without having to rely on Kally destroying the ship.
This was more or less the only conclusion a kor’s world ai could have come to, after what peter started logicing it with, and as peter said he understands ai well enough to have not directed the ai into this thought path unintentionally
Peter has talked to Fluffy before when it was fully manifested, but is the first time someone besides Kally has talked to Fluffy while its speech is still rendered as ‘roar’?
I feel like Peter might have, but there was some doubt if Peter could actually understand it or was just guessing what it said.
I assume that you are familiar with the military piece of jargon called SNAFU. Please remember that the first two letters stand for “Situation Normal”, and this applies to the status of the commenting system. If everything is working correctly, be afraid. Be very afraid.
Both of the Peter’s here are projections. The one further back is partially transparent and became so at the point of the snap despite the out of focus state. That fuzzy condition translated to the new appearance of Peter. the one closer to the door. I suspect Peter is attempting to leave the ship in the same way he arrived and that it might require being in a particular place.
The Snap is a magician trick it focuses attention on that point. All magicians have a flourish they use to move attention to a place they control. Even if you know they do it, not falling for it is really hard.
This is the problem with being a chessmaster: your plans fall apart as soon as you fail to account for someone’s behavior correctly. And he doesn’t have enough context for how Kor’s World operates to really predict them, even with having more knowledge of them than most of the IDS.
Future-proof your plans by killing everybody! Looks like Control reached its best before date… or had it pushed forwards by excessive exposure to Peter.
Feels sort of like this plan was one of those rapidly evolving gambits. He realized that Ellipses (presumably) wasn’t really working on Control, so managed to introduce enough doubt into its logic that it could work… but it seems Control reacted with scorched earth immediately.
That feels pretty predictable based on what we know of Kor’s World, but not sure Peter had a better play once Control had already caught him. Feels like he took a bigger-than-usual risk coming on board alone, but Miko sort of implied that his judgement was somewhat impaired when it comes to Kor’s World.
The artist/author has been leaving us clues, and the clue this time is the line art doesn’t QUITE line up with the fill, but only for Peter. This is only true for this strip; Peter was opaque and the colors fully aligned in the very last strip. At least the version of him that Control cornered was.
Oddly enough, Control, despite being a projection, and partially transparent, (one of the Peters’ isn’t), has crisp alignment between the line-art and the fill.
Ordinarily, I’d think you were smoking something, but this author…this is exactly the sort of clue Past would give us! I’m not good at spotting them, thanks!
It could be that the images of Peter are being fed directly into Control’s brain. Now I know you may say that there was a prior scene where Control pushed Peter. However, that first Peter might have been real, with a Peter image created to distract Control from the real Peter. While Control was distracted, a second computer image of Peter was generated, to pull Control’s attention from the first image to the second image, while Control thought his attention was going to the real Peter. While Control has his attention held by the two images of Peter, Peter makes a run for it.
Are my eyes just complaining about this image because they’re complaining about everything now? Or is Peter a bit … blurry is the wrong word. He seems to have a bit of a Peter-colored aura. I mean, even more than everything else right now, because right now my eyes kind of hate me and everything.

Maybe Mium is “helping” by providing a translation? Not sure how, unless Naomi is wearing an earpiece (possible).
Huh, I assumed it was Mium hacking the guys comms and Naiomi just not speaking Korish that well.
It might be related this plane. Naomi noted that she could see Tyler ‘leaking’ data. Naomi has been demonstrated to be able to ‘see’ magic to some extent, just not at the level of Magnolia or Mione.

Well, I guess this is the end of the comic, everyone going out with a big boom. No way any of them can survive this.

Kor’s guard forsakes his Oath of Control and joins the party so they can work together to escape the plane???

something screwy’s going on with the comments again.
I assume that you are familiar with the military piece of jargon called SNAFU. Please remember that the first two letters stand for “Situation Normal”, and this applies to the status of the commenting system. If everything is working correctly, be afraid. Be very afraid.
By the way, Peter would have probably loved the history of the “Ghost Army” in World
War II ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_Army ).

Rico: Kaboom? Skipper: Yes Rico, Kaboom.

He really should have seen that coming: isn’t it similar to what Mium would want to do? . . .
Future-proof your plans by killing everybody! Looks like Control reached its best before date… or had it pushed forwards by excessive exposure to Peter.
