Comic for Thursday, September 8th
Oops, I sort of last track of the days. Having a three day weekend has thrown my week into disarray.
Will be a short commentary as I’m supposed to have gone to sleep a few hours ago.
Mium has a habit of attaching Miss/Mr to people’s names, and tends to extend this to his designation for them. His version of formality may be somewhat confused. The notable exceptions being that he doesn’t do that with Peter or Miko.
A Witch Hunter is not a real title – it’s sort of like Monster Hunter is not a real title, but it’s something that null casters in situation containment are called. A witch is essentially a natural mage (inclusively), but certain people tend to be called that based on their training and skill set (like Kally). A null caster is probably fairly obvious, but we’ll get to the mechanics of that later.
As a reputable IDS investigator, I would imagine having a Witch Hunter and retrieval team sent to arrest her would be very disconcerting. What she needs to ask, though: “On who’s authority?” I would think that this is very much a matter of jurisdiction. Her boss has -no clue- that this is going on and I think that speaks -volumes- about what they’re trying to pull.
Kally seems plenty bright. Hopefully, she’ll ask the right questions and understand what’s going on. Heck, someone used knockout gas on her in a disguised auto-cab. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that they did not plan to arrest her on legal grounds, but rather -abduct- her.
It’s only sensible, I think, to suspect foul play: Probably an internal IDS power struggle. Or, more likely, the incident she’s currently investigating is ruffling feathers and someone involved in it, with a lot of influence, is forcing her to stop digging.
(Actually, I think they wanted to abduct Kally secretly just to put the blame on Peter – giving IDS reason to bring the hammer down on him.)
Yeah, I firmly expect that on the I.D.S. side of things, it’s going to be a looooong day. 🙂
Before this it had not really occurred to me they would just try to talk her into coming in. Kally seems pretty dutiful, and as far as she knows, these are her former department. She doesn’t know they working for Corporate Affairs (who she rightly distrusts).
It is a good move on their part. While pinning the blame on Peter would be strategically good, it would probably will not work to her face, since I don not think she would believe Peter tried to have her kidnapped.
I do not think she is dumb enough to go with them either way though, especially as she knows who Mium is. She probably completely distrusts him, but I as I said I do not think she would take seriously Peter trying to hurt her, as that has never really crossed her mind that we have seen.
Loyalty in the IDS can be complicated. There wasn’t much love lost between Kally and Otte in their brief encounter. How she feels about her old department is a good question though.
There is one little wrinkle in this process – concerning Kally’s department – that some of you may remember, that I reckon will come up soon.
No, Kally, at most it would be an attempted arrest. The I.D.S. retrieval team is way outclassed. ^^
Kally seems to still be a bit dazed by the knockout gas, but her mind also seems to be clearing rapidly–I doubt if the Corporal’s request will get very far.
yeah ila and mium could wipe the floor with them as is. the 3 of them…
tho im going out on a limb and say the null caster can do things somewhat like miums magic dispersion. but if your a full mage, who is in the middle of a serious investigation and had your military rank reactivated, and suddenly ppl on your side show up hevaly armed… yeah run first find answers second.
That’s my take on “Null Caster”, too, although Mium seems to be a couple of orders of magnitude higher than ordinary null casters, since every one who butts heads with him is like “Wait, what?”, even if they know what null casters are.
As far as attitudes go, Mium wants to run, Ila wants to fight, and Kally just wants to wake up. It will be interesting to see how she feels once she does wake up, however. ^^
Yeah, I think that is why the IDS guy wants to talk. I am curious what a Null Caster looks like though, and if it is functionally similar to what Mium does.
I am not sure Mium “wants to run”. I just think he does not fight for “fun” (Naomi) or “pride” (Ila), and sees no point. He has Kally, so he just does not care about them anymore. He shows no real sign that he is worried about them, he could have followed his own advice and shot them in the back again instead of interrupting them like he just does not give a ****.
Though that might have made an enemy of Kally. I can not see she would be okay with shooting her former comrades even if I do not think she will let them arrest her.
“Leave” would probably have been a better choice than “run”. I was contrasting their approaches to the situation, since I found them amusing. 🙂
well for kally it should be run. but your right on mium wanting to leave. hes “mission acomplished time to go”. ila is more “but i need to -prove- that im not a failure”. tho i agree with you that kally’s still on the “wait, what? wtf?” stage.
one thing i forgot to put in on my first bit was that the said heavly armed ppl seem to be equiped to ummm… “deal” with mages (ze null caster)
Mium just wants out of these lowlands with the lack of multi story buildings to sit on I reckon. 😉
darn you low lvl buildings. darn you to heck!!
My turn to help with typos.
What I have decided to call Panel 4 – further
Fixed! I think. Many thanks 🙂
