Comic for Thursday, May 3rd, 2018
I did debate a bit on how to draw panel 9… magic effects are really where I still bemoan my drawing skills. Like, I guess I do when I have to draw something I clearly can’t draw like a car… but at least with that, I can usually get close enough that people are like “oh, that’s a car”. With the magic effects I have a sort of idea what I want it to look like, but don’t really think I’m particularly good at rendering that effect. Perhaps it’s for the best – it’s like rorschach magic… I just draw glowy it looks like whatever the reader thinks look correct/cool… π
We will probably see more about Magnolia’s sight in time. It is not exactly like Mione’s, but they have more similarities than differences… at their root, they are very similar abilities. Magnolia is a bit more of an outlier than we’ve dealt with yet when it comes to magic, as she is not from either Central or Malsa, so she views somethings a little differently, even if its fundamentally the same magic system, how someone approaches it can effect how they interact with it.
Storing comics is slowly filling up my harddrive. I store each comic in the .lip, .psd, and .png formats on my computer. That might be a little overkill, as I don’t really need the .lip once I make the .psd (photoshop version); what I really need usually is the layered .psd version for when I inevitably spell things wrong. With my old comics I don’t have the layered version anymore, which is why fixing the text on those is a pain in the arse. Fortunately back than the text bubbles were completely opaque, so it’s pretty easy to just paste over them if I need to fix something. Would be real pain now, but fortunately I keep the layered versions… unfortunately those layered versions are 50 MB+ a piece, plus another 20 or so MB for .lip version. I could solve this problem, I just find it amusing because when I bought this computer I thought “eh, might as well add a 1 TB drive, can’t see filling that up…” … Enter comics. It is slowly filling up… Fortunately, this is a problem that can be solved. Disk space is pretty cheap these days (and yes, technically its all stored in cloud storage as well, but that’s more of a backup, would be a pain in the arse to rely on that).
Glad to see the dark horse I bet on showing up more. I had a good feeling about her. She was too suspicious to not show up again. And paying off with more intrigue.
Dark horse now glowing in the dark.
The horse you’ve even got a picture of as your picture, too.
The door, Miss Ila. It says “authorized access only”, meaning you’re trespassing. π
Also… makes it sound like Ila is supposed to be the one “planning on something violent”, which seems odd, considering…..well, a bunch of stuff…..hrmph. (Well, maybe not odd for her technically speaking, but in a “attack the hospital” manner it seems odd….)
I think Ila was supposed to be on the roof guarding the hospital from someone doing exactly what it sounds like someone is doing. That sounds like a Mium plan:
*Know exactly where the enemy will show up.
*Be waiting for them.
*Politely kick their ass.
*Explain they shouldn’t try to interfere with your plans.
Unfortunately Ila seems to have gotten bored and wandered off to go find snacks during step 2.
Eh. If returning to her post were too pressing, he’d probably ping her and she’d go through a few floors and walls (the direct way) to catch up.
I wonder if Mium suggested the chips expedition to get the Consul’s guard’s attention elsewhere while a member of Peter’s crew deals with the other threat (which presumably has intel into Malsan operations and may be ready to deal with the Consul’s guard).
I feel it more likely that Mium sent Ila to trigger a guard response. They’ll catch the actual evil doers as a side effect of looking for Ila.
Hmm. She’s crying. Pain, exhaustion, a side affect of using her power?
Also, a person climbing on the wall with weapons and violence in mind? Seems normal*.
Also, did she just disable the alarm and go inside, leaving her post, for tasty chips?
*Assuming the players of any and all the RP games I run are normal
I mean, that is basically Ila’s MO. She is debatably more powerful as a prototype than Mium, she just has the drawback of being piloted by a mind that’s main focus is tasty food and gets bored easily. I guess the question is if Mium had a failsafe, or if Ila will get back to her post in time to figure out what’s going on.
> Hmm. Sheβs crying. Pain, exhaustion, a side affect of using her power?
If you think about it, she has to perceive Eidos data in a way that human minds process to get the level of detail she gets. Imagine if you could see all the light from within a couple hundred feet of you? It probably is drastic overload, especially as she usually gets her eyes closed (and might be actually blind normally) so it’s like waking up in the morning directly into floodlights every time she looks like around.
It could just be that it gives here a headache and it is pain, but last time we saw a characters eyes watering was when Kally used the flashbang against Naomi and Mione got caught in the crossfire (crossflash?), so an overwhelming amount of data could definitely be the root of it.
Really though, any of those are possible. She mentions right there that she has used it too much to get around today. I would say that watering eyes are most likely from too much light or pain though, exhaustion does not usually make people cry, and she does not seem to be otherwise impaired.
How many people are having a sense of impending doom? Probably one too few no matter the count.
Panel 13: Magnolia: “Oh… dear. The armed person is now unconscious and is falling.”
Not going to lie, it too me quite a while to figure out this wasn’t a spelling correction. Let’s just say it’s been a long day and the ol’ wit is not currently at its keenest edge. π
lol I find your reply very funny
