Ah, my old secret strategy for better grammar. Now, I won’t guarantee the spelling is right as, technically, there are words that I could spell wrong, but I at least think no dialogue makes me safe from grammar errors.
I expect this another page where the flow will not be super clear, in particular what’s happening in the last panel. There is a lot more dust/smoke being blown around inside, likely from Jayce’s spell in panel 6, as we don’t see anything else happen. Personally, I get the feeling his not really keen on fighting in close quarters, particularly given how that went for him last time, and this time they seem to be trying to stab him; as for his magic for avoiding being sliced (and how he managed to back off), while it allows him to move very quickly for a moment, it lasts only a moment.
The sword itself will come up later I’m sure, but for the time being suffice to say (as someone asked I am a sucker for questions) there is a reason for it, though it being stylized as a sword fairly unnecessary to it’s purpose; it’s more like a specialized auto-caster, but no less useful for stabbing things.
In good news, the next page is already up onย Patreoย for early readingย for the first time in months; the exciting part being that Thursdays page will actually be on time! ๐ We’ll see if I can keep building the buffer or I manage to squander it.
Ah, now look at this, I’ve gone and made up for the lack of words on the page by typing them all down here.
An autocaster you can stab with? Isn’t that a little like swatting a fly with your laptop? O.o
Specialized autocasters – ones that are typically capable of only one spell with minimal adjustments – are frequently less laptop shaped, though most of the ones we’ve seen so far are shaped like guns.
While typically speaking the calculation still requires a processing unit of some size, both of her’s are very simple, and of them, the sword is by far more simple (though no less effective for it’s purpose).
Structurally as a sword it’s probably not a great sword, but it’s quite good at cutting and or stabbing things.
Tech-geek dude spends all his time trying to finesse the problem away. Amazon just blows up the floor. Who’s the better one when it comes to problem solving? ๐
Haha ๐ She has a certain streak of pragmatism, that’s for sure. A little crazy and reckless, but hey, not stuck in the floor. ๐
“Whoosh” is usually spelled with an h.
…just kidding, both spellings are acceptable.
You had my worried… ๐
I’ll have to review my sound effects for the future, I sort of just sound them out… ๐
Kudos for freeing herself, but… She already lost the element of surprise. And while her sword swing was a good try, it missed. He dodged and – apparently – managed to put some distance between them.
I think that, while Jayce was making distance from her, she should have shot him with her gun. She needs to keep the pressure on him, pushing him without letting up or giving him a chance to cast more spells.
Well, you’re probably right since her tactic didn’t work out ๐
Likely she attempted her tactic for two reasons:
First trying to get behind him is fairly valid, as most mages have trouble doing much out of their line of sight (this is not a rule, merely common); the less information a mage has on something they are trying to effect, the harder.
Second, as Jayce noted during his encounter with Naomi, distance is typically the friend of the better and more versatile mage; there are a lot of things a mage can do if you give them any room.
Likely his barriers would have blocked an attack from her gun/autocaster at anything short of point blank, but it probably would have kept him from doing other things for a few moments at least.
