I’m… honestly not sure if something I just noticed is a typo or foreshadowing. I’d guess _probably_ a typo, but I’m really not sure, because the word as written fits quite well too, though it would significantly (but not immediately obviously) change what’s actually happening…
Dang. Now I’m really not sure. Should I feel bad that the guy is such a nobody that Peter doesn’t even know who it is? Or should I be impressed that they’ve kept him from knowing?
Interesting that the uplink to M.Y.M. is:
(a) easy
(b) has it’s own error checking for neurological integration
(c) views anything other than “full dive” as an error
I think it’s safe to say that Mium doesn’t really understand the difference between “full dive” and “telephone call”… like… do you want to talk to someone, or not? It’s way easier to talk with your mind than by making weird vibrations in the air very slowly…
Miko just isn’t good enough with the implant to communicate that degree of nuance in a concept that Mium doesn’t really grasp.
All that aside… the implant wasn’t really made for making phone calls…
Ahh, programmers use such wonderful words that sound horrible but really aren’t.offloading a process is not a bad thing and sometimes aborting in the middle is not going to leave you in a good state.
Re Peter’s hologram, telling a person determined to a particular action where they think they are in control to “run” is just about guaranteed to have exactly the opposite effect.
Desyncing neurological processes from host container might be bad. I wonder if there will be enough remaining to remind the lungs to breathe and the heart to pump?
Well no, because desyncing “neurological patterns” kind of covers the entire nervous system. If we assume you actually meant “cerebral processes” then you’d be OK. You could include cerebellar processes too. You kind of want to leave the brain stem functions alone… (that’s your vital processes like breathing, heartbeat, & swallowing).
OR we could assume when you desync the neurological patterns, the brain stem just keeps on going (which is what it probably would do if you could actually desync someones neurological processes: it’s one of those systems that’s designed to keep on ticking).
Yeah, I’m inclined to think that “Desynching” means that the neurological systems will no longer work in synchrony, not that they’re necessarily all disconnected entirely from the host. It’s probable that, while she’s now operating on M.Y.M.’s hardware, there’s still an asynchronous connection (at least as long as the host hardware remains functional) to maintain ability to re-load back into her body. This would suggest that the involuntary systems are still operational, as well, as there’s no need to host those on M.Y.M.’s architecture for the link to function in computer-time.
It is quite possible that the outside world would see Miko initiate the connection, look briefly worried, then see her calm down and come out of it, having spent her conversation-time with Mium in a second or less in the real-world.
I would not worry to much about her essential body functions here. The connection beeing established with all error checks etc rinning shows that M.Y.M. is still online. Very busy, but working. We know that protecting “family and friends” is his Top priority. So if it would be dangerous for her in any way, I would assume he would block the connection

Last panel. Imitated, or initiated?

I’m going to assume he means initiated until told otherwise. 🙂
Fixed, thanks 😉

Peter’s got a lot on his mind right now. Well, I’ll say he’s not enough of a nobody to have been killed by the explosion…
Also we now have a bit more insight into how some of those house explosions happen.
Unexpectedly, we find that Muim is not a perfect programmer. Like us humans, he fails to take weird cases into account when deadlines are near.
For some reason, I find this somewhat comforting.
It’s possible he made a mistake many programmers have made.
He just copied a snippet from Stack Exchange without adapting it properly for his needs. Or Miko’s needs.

I’m assuming if Mium was fully functional he would have, after some explanations, been able to set it up. But he isn’t. So yeah.
