…okay, so this one wasn’t quite buffered. But! I have tomorrow off, so I think things will improve.
The spelling errors in Ila’s quoted text are in intentional.
Ila is paraphrasing a bit, but I imagine that’s more or less what Naomi would have heard.
I’m astonished that Ila hasn’t mentioned she’s hungry. I thought she’d probably come close to using all of her recent infusion of food already… (Easy come, easy go.)
I think she is beyond hungry at this point. She references not having enough time to get home, and refers to the “no dissecting promise”. I suspect she is about to shut down and knows it. Human food is probably only really suitable for a pick-me-up to her after all, I suspect that is why she eats basically constantly left to her own devices, and she did not even get to finish her snack earlier.
I’m going to be interested as to why a cube is easier than a sphere for this shield.
Is it odd that the convenience of shape of magic seems like it’s going to be really informative?
I don’t recall seeing a lot of curved shields in this strip. They’ve certainly used curved ribbons to grab people, and animated constructs often have even more complicated curved surfaces.
My guess is that Eidos constructs simply don’t have the same physical support effects. I could also imagine that the shields work via something akin to tensile strength – in order to have the shield stay rigid, it needs to be stretched between a number of points. So the simplest surround shield you could make would be a tetrahedron. But those either have points pretty far away or they don’t provide a lot of space. Building a cube provides a bit of a compromise between size and too many points to manage. It also has the possible advantage of even tension across the object.
Ah, Ila complaining about the situation being absurd.
The very idea of it is absurd, seeing it is absurd, and her thinking it absurd should really sum up to them just how absurd it all is.
Still, I hope someone comments on that last one in the next page. ^.^ (“Creepy….what?!?”)
(PS: Is the “I’m not going to complain” ‘mistake’ also intentional?)
Kor’s World plus Kally plus Atter. And now we’re adding Naomi? The concept of critical mass seems to apply here.
I don’t think it’s Naomi herself that Ila is really referring to. Naomi is powerful for a Malsan, but I don’t think she can deal with Atter, Kally or the Kor’s World Soldier.
I think that Ila knows that Naomi is going to ask Mium to pull Arkady out of there, at which point Mium can abandon all pretext of being subtle.
Mium does initially refer to Naomi as someone who beats him all the time (presumably he’s referring to video games). So it’s not out of possibility that Ila thinks of Naomi as more powerful than Mium.
Oh boy. Friends and Family exception ahoy. It’s been mentioned before that Mium is significantly less restricted when operating in that mode. Then again, he might just have a gate grab them.
The MinusYears didn’t leave me with the impression that gates were mobile. Even if they can be made mobile, I imagine it would be easier to transport them out than to transport a gate in.
… I assume he cannot gate a gate in?
The question is how do you get the first gate through to a new world? I think you might only need a Gate on one side, at least for very specific circumstances.
The Bridgepoint they keep referring to is probably some sort of Stargate like device to allow for massive movement of people and goods. Especially since they talked about it’s loss making transporting everyone more difficult.
Every time we’ve seen people go after smugglers, there was always a gate on site. However, you’d naturally want to take those down on the gate side. If that hardware is left intact, they just make another gate later on.
Now, if those gates are not on the Palindra side, then one might wonder how our intrepid heroes would get home. But I’d assume the smuggling that Peter and Kally cared about had their gates on the Palindra side, as if they were on Central, they’d either be on their nice space station or somewhere not very hospitable, and probably under the control of the IDS. If they were on a world other than Central or Palindra, it would be some other IDS group’s jurisdiction.
That still leaves the gates the MSB was taking down. I would assume to have more plausible deniability, the IDS built those gates on Palindra. Even if they weren’t, the MSB fielded a number of mages; I’d assume they had enough expertise on those teams to be able to make their own gate back home if they needed.
What happened to the rifle?
And, panel 4: “She might Know more”.
I didn’t make bullets go zoom anymore, it was broken. Ila may not have a strong grasp on the value of objects. Particularly ones she has… borrowed. Fortunately that wasn’t Mium’s rather nicer one (that he… borrowed… from the Avon team and has lent to her at least once). It wasn’t quite clear on the last page, but she just tossed it when it ‘broke’.
We’ve actually seen her borrow and discard a few weapons recently when they ‘break’. Her brother is probably going to make her read the user manual past the part that makes the bullets go zoom at this point though.
As for the typo… fixed, thanks 🙂
Considering Ila didn’t know guns had to be reloaded, she might also not have realized that guns can be reused. And like PastUtopia said: even if she did realize it …well, Ila tends to ‘find’ guns quite easily. After all, if you’re in a forest with dead branches lying around everywhere, you tend not to develop an attachment to a particular dead branch.
