Comic for Monday, September 11th
Is that the first time we’ve seen Peter swear? I don’t think so, but maybe. He’s somewhere between Miko and Arron. Less eloquent in fluent vitrolese than Miko, but not quite as classical as Arron. In general I think Peter’s personality is closer to Miko’s when he’s woken up in the middle of the night than it is otherwise.
Unfortunately we’ve hit buffer end again, and I was not quite prepared for Monday to come so soon. I swear it should still be like, Saturday, at worst. It being Monday already is entirely unreasonable. Sorry, just been busy again I guess.
I get the feeling Atter might have even less friends than Peter. Really, people seem to react in remarkably similar ways to their arrival. I’m not sure who between them should have their feelings hurt by that one.
So….Nathan’s giving up on any sort of expectations of what to think of Naomi other than “can handle herself”, Naomi herself gets to have more than a little fun, and Peter…
He almost (if not actually) sounds worried that Atter is there. (Well, that or extremely annoyed that about half the plans need some reworking. Or that he needs to plan for Atter at all…))
I had to get up early to read the comic… most have gone up too late last night.
Well, we already know that Atter was likely behind this somehow, but this confirms it. It seems how Peter got down from the window will be left a mystery, as how Peter does things often is.
Mium is being less obtuse and more snarky then usual, so I think it is fair to say that Peter is correct. He may think Naomi is going to be fine, but he would likely prefer not to leave her to find for herself even if she is having fun.
I do find the thought of Peter riding a motorcycle Mium is driving via remote fairly entertaining. I hope that Peter and Atter get a chance to chat. That could be pretty illuminating, as they clearly know each other, and I think Atter is likely more than just a minion.
Perhaps it isnt due to Naomi but because he really doesnt want to have to deal with Atter. We know Mium is amazingly dangerous but whatever Atter is is as well and Mium would be extremely annoyed at the prospect of having one of his bodies damaged seriously.
This reminds me of the recent Grrl Power (http://grrlpowercomic.com/archives/2621) where Maxima destroys an attacker. Afterwards, “Why didn’t the weakness aura affect you?” Maxima: “It did.”
Just like right now, Naomi is fighting injured. I enjoyed Mium’s confidence that Nathan would be okay because Naomi is there.
Atter is part construct at the moment? Some sort of hybrid construct and boosting magic? Pretty cool, seems obvious that someone should be able to do it, but it never crossed my mind before.
After panel 8, my brain ran out of coffee and I struggled with the flow. I’m not sure that the precise order matters though.
Grest comic!
I certainly think this is the first time we’ve seen him be THAT surprised by recent events. I think it even outclasses when they were attacked by Kor’s world.
Also, I think “He you mean” should have some punctuation in there. Maybe a question mark after “He.”
Also, countermeasures is one word, so should probably be hyphenated if you want to line-split it.
It’s one of those intentional fragments, but I think you’re right so I changed it to make more sense as you suggested.
I think it’s fair to say that Atter somewhat unnerves Peter, for reasons that some people may have guessed, hmmm… related to Atter’s encounter with Arron… 🙂
Assuming that Peter is an Ellipses user, it does not seem that Atter is effected by Ellipses, so he would sort of be a natural enemy of them. This could be incorrect, but he was able to track down Arron, who is a confirmed Ellipses user.
Perhaps a more political reason though, as both Arron and Peter note that Sophie (the head of Situation Containment) is involved when Atter shows up, it could simply be that seeing her personal hit-monster implies that she is firmly on Biana’s side. As Situation Containment has the most firepower of all the branches, this could be a wrinkle in any plan.
What is this “Ellipses” that you are talking about?
As I understand it, it’s basically the magical equivalent of “don’t notice me” tech. (It’s quite possible that I don’t understand it very well.)
No, you’re quite correct about Ellipsis. 🙂
As it was outlined above by a few others, we do not have the details on it, but it is some sort of technique that makes people not notice you walking past. It does not seem to make the user literally unseeable, just that people cannot actually pay attention to them or notice them.
We know that Tom can use it, and that Arron could use it (and likely still can and does, based on a few of his interactions with people). That Peter uses it is pure speculation since he is not a mage, but we do not know if you have to be a mage to use it or not.
Have you ever watched Doctor Who?
Its basically this worlds version of a perception filter; people still see you so they will avoid walking into to you, etc. but they arent conciously recognizing that you are there and will walk right past you without consideration.
It can also be likened to Hitchhikers somebody elses problem field. Where people simply ignore the thing in question.
@Amaranth: Sophia sent Atter to force Arron to retire (see SEE HERE). Atter replied that he had to take Arron’s “special agent” and “that vagrant thief” out of the way, first.
I assume he was talking about Kally and Peter, although the first roadbocks he encountered were Nathan and Tom, who also kinda fit that description, sooooo….
