Comic for Monday, October 27th, 2019
So I think there will be a Thursday comic this week, and hopefully a few bonus doodles based on the various costume recommendations we’ve gotten for Halloween (I won’t be able to do all of them this year, appreciate all the ideas though). In the past years I’d done a lot more doodling for October, but didn’t line up this year; been having trouble finding drawing time, but overall we’ve made some buffer progress, and things are mostly in order. Patreon page will be up tomorrow as usual.
Will try to go back to 2 updates per week until January, the current plan is drop back to 1 update per week for February though. Of course, things are subject to change, so these are just the vague plans. I also believe we will finally get the next chapter of Tyler’s story in November (mid/late November, probably).
By asking »| You speak this |« peter is experimenting with fluffy. He had no real reason to believe that Kally and therefore Fluffy could speak Koeish, but Fluffy is an impossible aberration and therefore might pick up information from edios itself like Mium and the only way to find out might be to ask. Kally probably did not understand exactly what perter said but shut down that line of inquiry quickly.
We also find out that Kally must use mana and from the amount ot pisons thrown off a lot of it to explicitly unsummon Fluffy or stuff him back into hammerspace.
I suspect you were trying to say that Kally has to INPUT mana into unsummoning. She could simply be draining psions out of Fluffy and radiating them into the air.
1. The dragon seems to have its own memory. What it knows seems to be independent of Kally. So are Kally and the dragon fundamentally linked, or does she just summon the same one each time? If she’s just summoning the same one each time, is it because she habitually does her summoning the same way which just happens to summon this dragon or does this dragon seek out and grab the summon whenever hers comes to its native plane? What does the dragon experience when not summoned?
2. Someone should add a languages section to the wiki.
Central
:: Central
-( Hello. )- :: Old language, people who still know it are connected to mages, demons, constructs…
Palindra
Hello. :: Malsan from Malsa
:: Orish from Orin?
[[ Hello. ]] :: Reshian from Resh?
Other
»| Hello. |« (or maybe }| Hello. |{ ) :: Korish from Kor’s World (best I could find for the dots are Alt+0187 and Alt+0171, trying to keep it within UTF8 for web purposes)
For future reference, comments can’t have angle brackets but can use HTML entities such as

I love Fluffy’s question about Peter: “Are we sure this one is a human?”
^_^
And the fluffiness has left the comic.
I think I like Fluffy almost as much as I like Naomi.
They’re boith so….straightforward. ^^
Did, did peter just confirm the dragon speaks Korish? Cuz that’s a big tactical *deal.*
I don’t necessarily think so. He talked to it in the unknown language of -()-, implied it understood what he said he in Malsan, Centralese, and Korsh ||, but the Dragon only replied to what he said in the unknown language of -()- which is what the Dragon has been speaking the whole time (mostly).
It seems pretty likely the Dragon understand Malsan, Central, and -()- (which is not Central’s main language, as it’s distinguished from it when Central is being spoke. So far we have only seen Atter, Nathan, Peter, and Dragon speak it I think).
But the Dragon did not confirm that it understood what Peter in said in Korish.
My guess is it probably speaks all the languages Kally does, which I don’t know if that includes Korish or not. In fact, this is the first time we have confirmed that Peter can speak Korish, but as Naomi understands some that was very likely (as she would have to learn it from Peter or Mium, and if Mium knows it, Peter probably knows at least some).
That would be my assessment as well. We have confirmation that Peter speaks Korish, but not confirmation that Fluffy speaks it.
Also interesting to me, why would Peter test that? Is it possible for a construct to know something the caster does not? When / how might Fluffy learn Korish if Kally does not?
Or perhaps Peter knows Kally possesses that language, but is testing whether the dragon has picked it up yet. But in that case, why would it be an advantage?
In the comments for the comic of July 17, 2017, a commenter asks what language this is. Past’s answer is, “Another language on central… sort of an older language, it’s not that widely spoken, especially post-Incursion. Mostly mages know it, Nathan and Arron can understand it well enough, if for different reasons…”
It sounds like this was the mages’ secret language from before the incursion (when all of central learned that mages existed because they were the only ones who could effectively fight back against Cor’s World). It would make sense that both the Summers family and the Keplers would have access to it, though past’s answer makes it seem like it is publically spoken now, just only mostly among mages. Or perhaps the ‘breeding’ that most likely took place among the mages ‘aristocracy’ (because power is what counts) means that even now most Central mages are from the old families?
