I think Mium has settled on a new favorite phrase, “in a manner of speaking”. Been busy again, trying to get things wrapped up for the D&D Kickstarter book, or at least into the final phase.
Looking forward to seeing how Mium interacts with these people.
And by interacts, I mean completely kicks their asses.
Mium hands Ila a few rocks and says “Miss Sister, In a manner of speaking, please hold down collateral damage. 🙂
I do feel she has consumed the entire banquet, including the sorbet, coffee, and wafer thin mint 😀
I speak Murican. To me, he sounds real good and smart.
My favorite color is Mossy Oak.
In Mium, the technology has you!
Yes, it IS YOU who is to say the grammar is correct!
You are the author, the recorder of what these characters are saying. To impose American English grammar rules on an alternate fantasy universe is absurd. Even if they applied, to expect the inhabitants to follow them perfectly is beyond absurdity.
The purpose of language is communication and that should be the criteria upon which the speech is judged. NItpicking esoteric grammar rules for a character’s speech is a distraction from the excellent story and cast insights you provide us.
I wonder how many of thee critics would try to correct Mrs Malaprop’s speech in Sheridan’s play, “The Rivals”?
Having said all that, I do not mean to subvert your request to point out obvious typos and your misuse of words in your problem areas such as “then” or “than”.
In a manner of speaking, I speak American (Midwest) English and have NO problem at all with the wording. To me, the sentence is grammatically correct. I easily understand what the speaker is saying. “Anomaly” is the noun. “Walking” and “technology” are used as adjectives. Either “walking” or “technology” could have been used alone to describe the noun. My understanding is that Mium is being talked about. I seem to remember that one of the family mages could not tell that Ila was not human. Perhaps the sentence could have included “blue eyed, blue haired, dark suit and tie wearing, walking technology anomaly” so we could be more sure. LOL
Based on Past’s response in the thread below, I think the issue was, somehow, everyone but the comic author forgot that the person we don’t know doesn’t actually know what Mium is, so has no reason to think that Mium is a piece of technology.
I went to school with a walking technology anomaly, and then later shared a cubical with a different walking technology anomaly, and somehow didn’t even have the presence of mind to remember that point.
(My former cube mate was one of the best and most productive tech writers that I’ve met, but she had technology issues like nobody else I’ve ever encountered. She tended to average about two productive hours a day, but did more in those two hours than most of the tech writers we had would do in two days. The rest of her time was spent on the phone with various helpdesks.
I did offer her help once, but I was not very successful, and the next day, she came over to my side of the cubical to ask for additional help, and it took me about a week to get my system working correctly again. No, she didn’t touch my workstation, but apparently she didn’t need to touch things to cause technology to work differently.)
Oh man its totally the Xeanort lookin dude from the council meeting. You know the one who was going head to head with readhead McAsh dad. I was expecting the whole coup to happen WAY later. Like still a chapter out at least.
Man! Ila totally ate those guy’s lunch.
Can’t wait to learn more of the D&D Kickstarter book.

Damn. That is nuts. PastUtopia is a man of many talents indeed.
True that. But it might be what was actuality said, given they believe spirits are supplying them with information.
I love Mym’s way with semantics…
Also, last panel, but it should probably be “technological anomaly”
It depends on exactly what they think is anomalous. If the ‘walking technology’ is perfectly normal, just not the way Mium/Ila do it, then it’s correct as written.
.. except in the sense that Ila already was directly involved. If Ila is considered normal, and it’s Mium who is the anomaly, then it’s probably correct as written.
Even if it might be technically correct, it’s very awkward phrasing as it is. If the subject is “walking technology” and the adjective is “anomaly” then it should be “anomalous walking technology”. If “walking technology” is the adjective and “anomaly” the subject then it should be “walking technological anomaly” as Gaijin suggested.
He’s referring to the fact that Mium is an anomaly in technology. He may or may not know much about Mium’s nature, but he knows that technology becomes anomalous when he is around.
So, while I’m not sure about all the subject and things, I think the subject is “technology anomaly” as in “anomaly in technology”, but saying “walking anomaly in technology” seems pretty awkwardly phrased for something someone would say.
Saying “walking technologic anomaly” make it sounds like Mium is a technological anomaly, which is debatably true, but the what the speaker is referring to, but rather his property of making technology behave in an anomalous manner.
Far be it from my to say the grammar as is is correct, but just clarifying what he is saying.
In that case, I withdraw the comment. It still sounds a little weird but I genuinely can’t come up with a better way of saying what you mean.
Past, I have absolutely no problem with the way you worded the sentence. Using “technology anomaly” instead of “technological anomaly” is perfectly fine.
Yup, at first I was reading that ad though he knew Mium’s nature.
Once I understand he was simply referring to tech going haywire around Mium, it makes sense.
I’m with Jim on this. The walking tech anomaly is quite obviously Mium. He walks, hes tech, and hes anomalous (scp anomalous). Although it appears that the speaker is unaware that M.Y.M has been involved from before the current… official declaration of war.
Tho it may be that his sense of pronouns is off as Mium has currently 3-4 separate mobile units and an unknown number of non-mobile units in use and all of them can be properly called Query/M.Y.M./Mium
