… and down the rabbit hole we go.
I think many people already connected the Miko avatar to someone named “Miko”. What the Miko avatar actually is, well, I guess that’s a little bit more clear (or maybe less clear? :P) now.
I think both Miko and Mir would hate me for saying what I am thinking right now though… cough… some similarities… cough… sometimes…
We are up to 3 comics buffered! I just wrapped up the page for December 29. That page probably just took the record for the longest I’ve spent drawing a page, but part of that is drawing and redrawing one part of trying to figure out how it should look…
There was also the first page of Minus Years (a prequel bonus comic) on Patreon. I haven’t decided how I am going to handle voting for the next goal, but if anyone has ideas of bonus comics or other goals, feel free to send them in. Minus Years II will probably be an option, but my idea is to have a handful to pick from.
It seems Naomi is winning the great Santa Hat vote. Kally and Ila both started strong, but, Naomi seems to have a solid lead now. I suppose this unsurprising, considering she’s won pretty much every poll so far, but found it curious how the early voting went so strongly for both Kally and Ila, but the more people voted, the more it swung toward Naomi. She’s a populist I guess.

in the 2nd to last panel, I’ve never seen Miko looked so worried or concerned before. it looked like her heart was unlocked or something. should we be worried?
Yes, we should be very worried.
They did something very… annoying.
And this will bring about counter contingencies.
And “They” will be living in fear wondering when the counter attack is coming, and in doing so will cause their worst nightmares to come into reality.
There is a lot to be worried about.
… oh, you meant about Miko. She is just a little insane, has multiple voices in her head and has agoraphobia, nothing to worry about.

Haha – well, if I answer it then it’d be a spoiler 😛 I generally encourage commenters commenting on comments as more heads combined can always come up with most interesting theories (or the most painful puns… strangest ships… the various commenter shenanigans). I try to swing by and comment through eventually as well 🙂
We’ve just scratched the surface of Miko, but I think it’s safe to say that Miko has had a rough day… I think Miko has had a very unique experience, especially for someone like Miko. What good or ill may come from that… well, time will tell 😉
I appreciated the comment. I get the feeling that basically the worst case scenario is when Peter decides you’ve made it personal. The only thing more doom-inducing would be Mium deciding to make it personal. Sure, he can’t hate yet but… well, he tends to learn things…
I think Miko fits in nicely. None of them are very sane. People give Naomi a free pass because she’s cute, but she is definitely psycho. Peter is socially challenged at very least. And than there is Rovak, who is a full fledged functioning psychopath, and still my favorite character.
Is that Magical Girl Miko on the realization of actually being connected to Mium’s system?
This is probably the first unexpected thing in a couple of years that Miko hasn’t complained was “stupid”, “annoying”, or “boring”, isn’t it?

I really regret that I don’t have enough time to do the poster spam of Miko’s walls, as the fact that Miko has a ton of posters of magic girls was something of a plot point, as it’s certainly a dissonant personality point in Miko. Unfortunately that took a lot of effort the first time I did it, and it hasn’t been viable on this pass of Miko’s apartment, as I didn’t have the various other pictures to turn into posters for the background, so I’ve sort of curtailed the extent of the wall postering.
… yeah, that was sort of a tangent, but the mentioning of “magic girl” made me remember that I was sad about it 😛
I was sort of surprised that more people didn’t check the multiple answer one, but it was sort of intentionally worded as not just “all of the above” even if that’s technically what it represents (a bit of a tongue and check reference to people that didn’t realize several of the polls have been multi select 😛 )
I think the only way you will draw someone other than Naomi for incentives and bonus art is to take her out of the running.
well usually pastutopia draws them all anyway or at least the top few and there is only three here. so… i’m still hoping we’ll get an Ila too.
I too would like to see more Ila. However, when I imagine putting her into a Santa Hat, all I can see is confused looks.
And, I would love to see Kally in a Santa Hat, but she would need to smile, and I am unsure she is capable of smiling, or even looking contented.
So, that leaves Naomi. Smiling and hitting things is her forte.
I guess it depends of your on the naughty list or the nice list which makes the most appropriate santa…
I like to the think the assassin went else where and is muttering and drinking about impossibilities.
A good watering hole to drown the sorrows seems like it would be on every respectable teleporting assassin’s geographic landmark list. Not sure I recommend teleporting drunk though… 😉

Why not just get rid of the bullets in the magazine before they can be fired?
Interference and distance are two possible reasons. Hitting a fired bullet might not be all that much harder than a still one for MYM, but we do know distance effects his ability, and if he is trying to run as lightweight as possible to not fry Miko’s brain via implant overload, he is probably minimizing effort.
other issues could be a) the mag is mostly covered by the hand. and b) the mag is inside the gun. the gun looks simaler to a sig. tho honestly most modern pistols are built along the same lines. so the spacing of the bullets should be about the same, depending on the what the excat caliber the bullets are useing.
most modern pistols use 9mm, .22(5.6mm), .38(9.1mm), and .45 caliber(11.5 mm) and so the spacing between these bullets would be different enough to throw off the calculations. now if palindra uses different mesuring benchmarks that could throw off the calculations even more. say malsa uses a .27 caliber standard, and most of palindra uses 8.3mm standard. these would make the calculations even more complicated. and then theres the placement of all these parts. which varies not only from gun maker but also from styles.
on the gripping hand just turning say the slide or hammer into nothing would make the gun usless no matter what type of bullet is being used.
I love the look on the Assassin’s face as her bullets disintegrated coming out of the gun. I just had a thought. That dissolving the Assassins finger would be about the same mass as the bullets destroyed. But it might be harder to do with living flesh that is attached to a mage. If it’s really fast would the Mage catch on in time? Though I think Mium got the gun too.

This is true. It’s a pretty complicated hierarchy of how hard things are change, but beings with an Eidos Key are at the top.
While that is universal, there are few more depths to it. Changing the already existing variables of a humans Eidos Form (acceleration, mass, etc) is still challenging, but possible. Adding new data or erasing existing data to them is extremely challenging.

This page has so many levels, I am lovin it.
It is interesting. MYM is definitely there, but I am deeply curious what it is going on beyond that. Panels 8 and 9 will take some time. Both seem to be the Miko avatar, but one is human shaped and the other is her typical “chibi” avatar.
Miko either identifies more as the avatar than the person (which could explain a lot) or that is how Mium is “syncing” her into the system. Or both. Miko’s comments seem to indicate she is not super concerned about the body or even the brain as long as she is connected to Mium’s system.

it looks like miko.temp and miko.(unkown). some seem to be going in conjunction with what miko is trying to do, and some seem to be trying to counter miko as extranius data to be ignored. and a little bit on 9 seems to be mium trying to communicate with miko. or maybe the other way around.
either way it would be intresting to see what notes miko will have.
I think all of the background bubbles on the right in panel 9 are actually the same text as the foreground ones, just with “Miko.temp.[probably system]” in front of the text. Cannot see for sure behind the Miko avatar, but I think this has something to do with Miko’s status of running on the Mium Cloud.
The fore front are the thoughts she is aware of, the background are the background process supporting it? I actually wish we could see those bubbles more clearly, though I know PastUtopia likes to hoard secrets and clues.
I came to just about the same conclusion about the back/foreground bubbles however the last bubble pair does not mach up entirely, is this an error or not? Perhaps I am misreading it but I read:
Thought bubble: “Muim – you can hear me … right?”
Background log: “Muim – can you hear me?
The start of the message is blocked out I assumed it was only the Miko.(whatever) part, it ends in “em” so I would agree with it being “system”. Anyway an awesome page.
It is not a typo. I’ll say that much… 😛
