Comic for Thursday, November 3rd
Well. That is a lot of text. I think that’s a likely theme when Peter is on the page and being chatty. He either says not much or a entire scads of rambling.
This page was a tricky conversation for two reasons. One is it’s what I call a threaded conversation – there are two distinct topics that they are talking about at the same time. Maybe it’s just me, but I find those fairly common in actual conversations, though they tend to usually resolve to one topic after awhile. Second, we don’t know Tyler all that all, so it’s hard to write the war between his curiousity and duty – while in some ways the overlap here, not completely. He definitely wants to know more about the cool toy in front of him, while the rest of it seems a little abstract while the cool toy is sitting right there. While he’s certainly less of a tech-geek than Peter, he definitely has a mage’s-curiosity when it comes to magic.
Sorry for being a little bit on the MIA the last bit, got sidetracked by work and stuff. I do want to assure you that I get and read your comments basically as soon as you put them in (since I can view them on my phone) but as I don’t reply from my phone or my work computer, sometimes it takes me a bit more to follow back up with you. I still greatly appreciate them and find them generally fascinating, and rest assured I will always find time eventually to reply ๐
I have to buckle down and get the buffer shield up for the end of this month, amazing how fast that is coming. Unfortunately it went down rather than up. I swear everything time I get a buffer up the powers that be conspire to destroy it. It leads me to the theory that if I don’t make a buffer than I will have less work… ๐
The last vote incentive for the costumes is coming, and I’ll put the compilation up after that. I have not forgotten, just been sidetracked.
It just occurred to me that Tyler has not met Mium. He might recognize the name as a new student, but they have not actually managed to be in the same place yet due to their habits of skipping out of class.
Now he knows Mium works with Peter, though that is probably not a big secret. Peter does not give away that Mium is not a human though, just that he wants one of these and has several others, and may have a tie to Avon.
I also find Peter’s interesting on keeping the card from Mium interesting. It seems that he can control to an extent what Mium does, but not what Mium wants, and is savvy enough to know that the gap there is quite relevant for a clever AI.
Miko is a they? I’m going to have to assume its the gender neutral singular form and not the plural because messes. Still interesting none the less. Also why is Miko being at the bottom/top of the expendablitity list is interesting.
It is a bit confusing. But, given the context… My take is: “While Miko is more capable than [my other allies and pawns], they [my other allies and pawns] are also absolutely not expendable resources.”
In other words: While Miko is Peter’s most irreplaceable asset, he can’t afford to lose his other allies and pawns, either. He chose to put Miko at some risk by sending her to Avon. Then stuff happened. He had to protect Ms. Summers and Naoimi was in no shape to do so. That is why he sent Tyler to the Avon building – to protect his most valuable piece.
Also, while I’m sure that Miko is a genius and perhaps more important to his plans than anyone else, I suspect that there is also a personal element. That is, I think they’ve known each other for some time and that makes her more important in his eyes.
panel 3, last bubble, instaneous should be instantaneous
Fixed, thanks!
Just want to step out from the wild theory booth and note that this dialog is great. There is a lot of information here, but I never found it tedious or boring. It is well flavored with the character’s personalities, and contains a wicked balance of giving information on old mysteries while introducing new ones just as fast. An excellent page in my book.
Going to guess you go to the dialog after everyone else fixed it… ๐ It was a team effort this time around to make it legible… ๐
Appreciate the comment.
“He recently acquired a need for another one of these…”
Let me guess: The reason that Mium needs another one of those cards is because of F-5?
I agree that is almost certainly the cause. This likely explains how MYM keeps all of the different instances synced up. F8 likely has one, I wonder if Ila has one?
This also suggests that Avon had a stock of these cards, making there more smoke in from the Avon is dealing with Kor’s World fire (but still not proof, they could have salvaged a Kor’s world base or something).
Another possibility for the similarity in cards is that Kor’s World hacked Avon. Kor’s World also has a SMAI with some of M.Y.M.’s capabilities (see HERE), and if they hacked a part of Avon’s net that M.Y.M. didn’t control at that time…..
It also worth mentioning that Peter saying this means that he likely knows that Mium merged with F-5. This is good because it lowers the chance of the results of the Mium/F-5 merger going horribly wrong.
On another note, multiple times an “AA system” has been mentioned. Might these cards have something to do with it? Though they may simply be used as a connection.
The timing is suspicious.
Panel 4: “franking me out” -> “freaking me out”
Panel 5: “disessemble” -> “disassemble” and “Avon,’s” -> “Avon’s”
With that many words, it would’ve been a franking miracle if there hadn’t been any spelling grammar problems!
Fixed! Thanks! ๐
Also, panel 6, I think “sidetrack” is one word, although I’m not entirely sure.
Worth noting in the art that Tyler’s hair is swapping sides of his nose, and seemingly not in a way that’s just being consistent with perspective. I suppose it could be moving around, or artistic licence, too, I suppose.
I think you’re right, fixed it.
As for the art… eh, I would consider Tyler in panel one to be the canon appearance of Tyler this page. Honestly the art sort of rushed at the moment now because I’ve been a little hard pressed for time – both work and a few other hobbies have been muscling in on my time, and I am trying (and failing) to build a buffer for the end of this month when I’m traveling for two weeks ๐
Frankly the solution will likely be more coffee, but I am foolishly trying to cut down on it (well, the sugar in it what I call coffee…) which makes time less productive ๐
Panel 5: “… be a problem *is as* we need …”
“is as” is wrong somehow. I suspect the “is” needs to be dropped.
Fixed! Thanks. You are right there is just an extra word there, this is what happens we pay the writer by the word… (… we don’t. Also we keep using we to refer to our-self…)
Panel 3, first bubble makes no sense unless Miko is a thing.
“While Miko is a more capable than she seems, she is also, absolutely not an expendable resource.”
(The last part of the sentence is wrong, but it is correct Peter broken-language.
Panel 6 “,for a moment,” needs to have commas around it.
and I would add “thereof” at the end. “Implications thereof.”
That is absolutely grammtically correct. Peter is referring to Miko as a thing, because she is a thing. People are things too.
Unsure. If the concern is inconsistent number, assuming Miko is singular, they is a plural pronoun referencing a plural noun. So “they” doesn’t, probably, reference only Miko. But “they” could reference Miko and unspecified others.?
Singular โtheyโ is definitely a thing… Typically it would only be used if he didnโt know Mikoโs gender for he/she. I can think of a few reasons: Miko is fairly androgynous and may not prefer a gendered pronoun. Miko may not be a human and may not have a gender (though he refers to Mium as โheโ despite him being definitely less human). Peter may just being using it generically to speak of them as a resource and not a person. Lastly, we know that Miko is not her name, maybe he is referring to whatever โMikoโ refers to if it is more than a nickname, like if her avatar is an AI somewhat separate from the person.
Either way, assuming it is not just a typo, it promises to be an interesting mystery.
Alternatively it could still be plural. Miko is frequently seen “talking to herself”. While she is talking to Mium, she may even by somewhat integrated to Mium’s system.
While MYM is singular, Mium, F5, and possible other instances could be referred to as plural easily enough as “he” is not a single entity.
Several distinct possibilities. All I can confirm is that it was typed intentionally that way… ๐
The text has been confirmed!
Quick Amaranth, to the wild conspiracy booth!
^_^
there is a different posibility. if miko is not human, or for that matter alive, but a networked series of androids. somewhat like mym, but useing ids hard- and software.
*steals booth and runs away with it*
>:D
See, @Amaranth, this is what happens when you don’t make your wild conspiracies fast enough, some else makes off with your booth ๐
Ack! And I had so much wild speculation to do!
So many Datachasers! Whoโs next, Gilrandir? megados? DLK?
