Comic for Monday, August 28th
I assure you, hitting things with Ka’vil is not the proper use of it. There are some people that would be fairly aghast at that use of it, really. That said, it’s a very handy side-effect of what it is that it’s fairly close to Immutable, and while red ethereal constructs are pretty close to real, they are not quite.
Nathan ends up hitting things with it fairly often, given that he his preferred magic does not have the fastest evocation speed. Fortunately, it’s really pretty good at hitting things, though I imagine that Nathan is rarely trying to hit highly stable and very murderous constructs with it. Hmmm. Scratch that. That probably happens to Nathan on a somewhat regularly basis. There is a reason Peter feels justified in blaming this on him.
Next page; Naomi punches a construct, construct gets destroyed, Nathan makes WTF face
I find myself eager to find out if she CAN hit it hard enough.
Hmm. But what if your fist were made into a construct?
Also, is there something special about Red constructs? Something special enough that he has to remind her that they’re red?
Red constructs are highly stable, or highly “real”. Destroying one part usually doesn’t cause the whole thing to collapse (Kally’s dragon is an example). Has been mentioned in the comic comments.
Technically if you are talking about making her fists into a construct, than that kinda is exactly what the body reinforcement does. Rather than changing the Edos data of an area of space to stop things from going through it (or changing the area to create a nearly physical creture, as are constructs) it instead changes the physical properties of the body. So in that way it is basically a force field without the “field”.
The problem with that is that you let the enemy within point-black/mele range and kali’s dragon probably isn’t the only one that can do more than just attack with claws. Being that close to an enemy is a LOT more dangerous. Granted, Naomi can probably deal with it for some amount of time, she is a 4 on the power scale despite the fact that “Mr. classified warden” thinks she is a 2 or a 3; but even she can be overwhelmed and she knows nothing about these enemies or what they are capable of. Think about trying to beat a new boss in a video game without reading a walkthrough or any other knowledge of its abilities and patterns compared to after you have looked them up and beaten them a few times; it is like that. Even if they would be small fries later on in the story at this point they may still be a fairly creditable threat.
considering what we have seen of Naomi i wouldn’t be surprised if she could punch an abstract concept let alone an ethereal construct.
They may be able to “affect” Ka’vil, but it’s too late for them to “effect” it because it already exists.
Fixed, I think 🙂
Panel three: “reflections”
Fixed, thanks.
He really hasn’t grokked that Naomi’s got her own internalized ethereal construct thing going on, and you can’t get a better written Eidos form than a pre-existing physical body…
That may be the best way to describe her irregularity with how she does magic. It at least fits with everything.
I don’t know. Body reinforcement doesn’t exactly seem to be rare. There is even a tool that can allow high level grunts to do it continually (the “boost drive”), so it may not be a surprise that she can do it too.
That said, Naomi’s level with that magic is FAR above normal and she didn’t use anywhere near her full strength against Nathan (as proven by the fact that the roof where she threw him down doesn’t have a man sized hole in it). I can forgive him for not realizing that she is powerful enough to singlehandedly take down a Kor-World tank, and actually be playing around with it until she realizes that something is going on and that she needs to get going.
And so Nathan is introduced to Naomi Logic: “If punching doesn’t work, punch HARDER!” ^^
It’s kinda had or her to take these overgrown bugs seriously after having seen Kally’s dragon in action…..
