Comic for Wednesday, April 8th, 2020
Going to be honest, this page probably needed another day in the art department, and if you notice errors in the background or something… don’t think about it too hard, it’s probably just a mistake. The characters should be fine though besides that Naomi is slightly too tall in several of these panels, which is not intentional, but I realized that sort of late. I will, however, in that note, point it is intentional that Naomi’s wounds on her face seem to be growing less severe over the course of the panels (since I just said that details may be accidental).
I’d have delayed till tomorrow, but I likely won’t have much time to work on it, and I said I’d try for today, so here we are.
Naomi isn’t very good at punching people that give up, as it’s unsporting.
It’ll be one more day. Comic is coming, but won’t make it tonight, sorry folks.
Will look forward to it when it gets here, whenever 😀
[PastUtopia], Re_”Naomi isn’t very good at punching people that give up, as it’s unsporting.”:
Has Naomi ever heard of the concept of a “piñata”?
Does such a thing exist in any of the cultures that we’ve seen in this story so far?
It seems like just EXACTLY the sort of thing that she’d be absolutely “Head_Over_Heels_In_Love” with!
The premise is so very simple:
— He has information
— She wants that information
— He REALLY needs to withhold that information
— She cannot trust him to give her truthful answers, only misdirection & evasions
(___However___)
— If she can hit him hard-enough, often-enough, maybe some actual truth will fall out.
How can she NOT love playing with piñatas … ?!?
PS:
That bottom-left corner-panel looks like Peter’s office-door … am I mistaken?
“That bottom-left corner-panel looks like Peter’s office-door”
Convergent evolution, I think. Not Peter’s door.
I was correct in think they were the rear guard of an assault party, also one of them thinks she might be a mind reader. Just having Magnolia in the same city has made them jumpy.
Are we… are we just not going to talk about the last panel…?
That looks like a red construct, right?
Or thin blood. One of the two.
I took it to be a bit of Naomi blood at first. She tends to do that at times, not much to be concerned over.
But now that Kevin points it out…. I thought this was a six panel comic. It looks like it is a seven panel, with the seventh existing only to foreshadow powerful constructs in use.
What fun!
Pretty sure it’s a red construct. It has red lines, which is something PastUtopia only does for constructs. That’s why it was a big deal when Fluffy had black lines.
Given her other comment, I think this is probably some construct of Eliana’s as she can make red constructs.
I’m going to guess construct simulated knockout or nerve gass. And because that is very much harder to calculate than a simple box i am going to guess that it is a collaboration between Elaina and Illa.
I’m going to guess “red construct blood”, based on the look of it.
Yes, I realize that red constructs usually break rather than bleed, but I’m sure everybody here knows I’m willing to take long shots. I just sometimes like to disclaim them as such.
Naomi can punch red constructs hard enough they shatter.
If someone suggests you can punch them hard enough they BLEED, she is going to want to try that.
I’m going to need clarification of bas-branch. Probably something obvious. Bastard-branch?
Currently I’m thinking: Bad Arse Service. Blackops Adjudicators Secret (this makes more sense if you’re familiar with Malsan grammar). Bracterian Archangel Servants (camels are revered as sacred). Bandersnatch Attack System (thank you Lewis Carroll).
Bas (pronounced ‘bah’) is the French word for “low” or “lesser.”
So in this context, he’s making the assumption that she’s a member of a subsidiary branch to one of the greater Houses.
To be honest, “distaff” would probably work better, but I suppose there are reasons for using “bas” instead.
He was about to say “bastard” then realised she might take offense to that word and punch his face off, so he transitioned mid word to “branch member”, bastards can be thought of as stray branches on a family tree.
I think the other clue is that he cut off the other guy before the other guy could call her a bastard. Her mismatched black hair and purple eyes seem to be making them think that.
Interestingly, most of these people have mismatched hair and eyes (even the green haired guy, his eyes don’t match his hair perfectly). Might be why they leap to that conclusion so easily and be a clue as to who they are.
OMG, I just noticed she has purple roots. That’s a detail I did not expect. It’s such a tiny thing, I’d expect most artists to just not bother.
Crazy, isn’t it?
Panel 5, zoom WAY in, and notice the tag of Naomi’s shirt sticking out a bit? Size, material, country of origin are printed on it. The artist can’t figure out why everything takes so long.
But seriously, awesome catch on the purple roots! I missed that.
I think her hair is starting to turn purple due to regenerating her wounds. Her hair is either growing as her body rapidly goes through the healing process, or is being restored to a “previous template” of some kind prior to being wounded. Her hair actually did not have purple roots until she got shot, and she hasn’t had it dyed long enough it should have grown out that much naturally.
That said, the purple doesn’t appear to be exactly lined up with all of the hair strands.
Alternate theory, as she is using power at a higher rate than normal (what with healing on top of everything else), her body is building up a response to her having colored her hair. Little did anyone realize, but the laws against people with magic-related hair colors dying there hair are there for a *reason*.
It’s been hundreds of years since anyone violated those laws, mostly due to until recently those hair colors were almost exclusively the domain of the Families, and that’s the one rule that they’ve tried to get all of their children to obey above all else. Naomi’s personal magical field is going to assert itself against her hair dye, in a dramatically explosive fashion, and woe to anyone else in the blast radius.
Hopefully, none of them will be friendlies. As Naomi does tend to get into the thick of things, this is at least possible. However, the size of the blast tends to be related to the power cap of the individual, and Naomi’s power cap hasn’t actually been established.
If her ability to go up without apparent limit is due mostly to the primitive purple power she uses being easier and more plentiful than the higher colors, this could merely obliterate the fools she’s tangling with at the moment of that explosion, but everyone else will be fine.
But it could be more. The house? The city? The country? If she really doesn’t have a limit, this could be the end of the story, as she takes out *everything*, including Central and Kor’s World, in this blast.
Probably the answer will be somewhere between.
