Been a little busy, but the next costume sketch will definitely* be sometime soon.

Buffer page will be up on patreon tomorrow as well, today was unfortunately a bit of a lost cause on getting anything done. I feel like I should have more to type here, but I don’t, which is strange, because normally I have ceaseless blathering to do. Must be tired.

Just noticed the helicopters in the sky. Is the school located in a potentially contentious region (or on a path to it), or is that what the sky looks like everywhere?
I belive the school IS a likely contentious region. It would seem to make up a sizable component of the combat magic available directly to the Malsan government. Most of the rest would seem to be locked up in the old families’s control.

That actually sounds rather rare. (Though I’d almost guess the rarer it is the more likely it is he has or can arrange to have one.)
(Also interesting that he doesn’t actually sound interested in talking with his uncle, though given some of that language, I’d say that really comes off as apparent…)
And he also manages to make a whole lot of points while saying…pretty much only that he he doesn’t seem thrilled about chatting with his uncle. (And that Ryn is, if you word it the right way, a rather simple person.)
Yes, you can get polished, fossilized, burned pieces of angel’s shit in the Last Holocaust gift shop. They make great gifts for your non-believer friends.
Mine’s not polished… I use it like a pumice stone – gives a baby’s-bottom-finish to that once-rough-skin!
And LOL on the definitions for “angel shit” at Urban Dictionary… also while you’re at it, why not look up “angel poop”. Apparently there are recipes for that.
Peter is probably correct about Tyler and/or the Consul. As the saying goes, “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” What better way to keep a close eye on Peter than to put him in their organization, giving him major responsibilities, and having the rest of their organization keep a close eye on him. I’m sure Tyler knew that his subordinates would not trust Peter.
Also, those are some wise words by Arron in panel 4, surely spoken out of bitter experience.
It is more subtle than the art, but in my opinion the writing has gotten as much better as the art, grammar aside. We learn so much about Arron in that panel, but it opens so many new questions.
It also re-contextualizes a lot of their previous actions. Arron is scared that Peter will make decisions that effect the world because of how it will effect Peter as much as how it will effect the world, and, unless I miss my guess, Arron knows how those effect someone very well.
That said, I am not sure he has the read on Peter, he seems to be seeing himself here, but Peter is not Arron. Peter is more likely to fail a Turing test than Mium.

Is Arron’s line “arrogance isn’t thinking you ARE right, it’s thinking you HAVE the right.” a quote from somewhere? If it is, well quoted. If it’s not, well written. That is a damn good line, even if I can’t decide who is the good guy on this page.
I am not aware of it being a quote, but I’ve learned to be cautious in saying something like that, as it turns out there can be sometimes a very thin line between things you read or hear and things you think later that you thought.
Why my best advice on being a writer is to read a lot, the more you read the higher the pile of shoulders and you can stand on is – not that my advice on how to be a writer is a sought after prize in this world 😀
Also, if you read a lot, then you are less likely to plagiarize. Because, plagiarize means copying one work.

It seems there is more then a little bad blood there. Probably should have guessed from Peter’s sister scene that the Kepler family is not quite sunshine and roses.

I think you meant to have an object of the possessive “his” in there, but I am not able to guess what that was.
Arron trying to get ahold of Taki is interesting. We’re pretty sure Taki==Miko, but Peter makes an excellent point to Amy here: I don’t think anybody in the audience or, indeed, outside Peter’s circle of about 4 people (himself, Mium, Miko, and maybe the very dangerous violence elemental girl whose name I can’t remember right now) actually know what he’s after.
I think it is “your former boss, his boss, or the consul”, but it is fine to the drop the “boss” in “his boss” like the sentence has. Not sure if it is grammatically right, but common in speech.

Regardless of whether this would be deemed correct in an English class, you can tell it’s grammatically correct because it’s a common usage. That’s what grammar *is*.
Yes, it’s an elliptical sentence, and one of the ways you can tell it’s grammatical is that there are grammatical rules to tell what you can and can’t drop out when you’re constructing an elliptical sentence. Actual linguists are working right now trying to figure out just what those rules are. Most of what gets taught about grammar is really teaching “standard” English to kids who started out with one of the “non-standard” versions. And some is just wrong: You can split an infinitive or end a sentence with a preposition if you want to.

You did well. A little past some of your readers education level but you made something that works.
Hmmm. I did understand what you meant when you wrote “…your former boss, his, or the consul”… I thought it to mean Tyler, Tyler’s boss when he was head of the MSB, and the consul… which means the uncontracted portion reads “…your former boss, his former boss, or the consul”… and thus it makes sense to and is more succinct to contract “his former boss” to “his”.
Amy is pulling kind of a cheap shot there in Panel 5. Peter didn’t deliberately meet with Arron as much as he was cornered by him. If she wants to be in on such “meetings”, she should stick as closely to Peter as she used to stick to Tyler.
Peter and Arron sort of put an exclamation point on “dysfunctional family”. ><
As far as I can tell, Taki was used as a test subject for an experimental autocaster wired directly to her brain. Something went wrong, and she was stuck in a coma for some time. Probably a long time, considering that she is supposedly older than she looks.
Considering exactly how poorly Peter has taken it every time someone has tried to hurt someone on his “do not touch this” list, I would posit the rest of the Keplers are lucky Peter had some sort of familial restraint.
This also almost certainly confirms that Miko is Arron and Kyle’s sister’s kid. We have not seen Arron’s sister. Notably, we have not seen said sister yet, though this opens up quite a few questions.
Frankly I think I agree with both Peter and Arron on this page. Peter very likely has every reason to think he has to see everything through on his own, but, and this is just me speculating, I think Arron sees his own past in that decision, and Arron’s past likely weighs very heavily on him.
These two talking to each other is putting out a grumpy field, making all of the people around them not happy.
That is quite the sour look on the face of the miss on the far right of panel 5. But, on the opposite side, we see Naomi. AFAIK, she seems to sport a beaming smile. She’s probably happy because she got to punch, kick and stab a bunch of nasty monsters the day before. She even got to stab some monsters with their own stabby bits!
The grumpiness may not be Peter’s fault. My guess is that this is a Monday. That, or maybe Ms. Grumpy is another member of MSB who’s frowning at the thought that Tyler put Peter in charge?
I think the one to the left is Mione, not Naomi. They actually look fairly similar though. Mione’s hair is a different shade, and she is darker brown. Her pony tail is shorter, and historically she wore it off centered, but their hair styles change a lot. Also, she is drawn with her eyes closed a lot more than Naomi. It is strongly implied that is because she can “see” into Eidos, so he probably picks up a little too much information with her eyes open. Naomi might be able to do that as well, though, as she seemed to see Nathan’s staff as more than a staff. Probably not on the same level though.
Could be wrong though, the background characters are somewhat less detailed. That said, unless I miss my guess, the tiny character between them background in that character is Naomi. Yes, I did zoom in a lot.
Correct, that’s Mione. To be honest it’d pretty hard to guess at that level of detail though.
Mione is almost an anagram of Naomi! No wonder they look so similar. ^_^
