Comic for Monday, September 25th, 2023
Sep25
Look, I don’t know how even time works anymore or what happened to last week. Was working on something, then, bam, poof. A week was gone.
But, comic!
Will aim for next page Oct 9th, but we all know what’s worth at this point.
Pitchforks are ready for distribution. I’ll start handing them out in [NOW]!
Riot?
Mostly peaceful protest.
Let’s start burning things to the ground.
I started reading this comic back in 2017, and somehow managed to lose my bookmark before I even got out of the 2015 comics. Just found it again a week or two ago, and have been rereading from the beginning since I had no memory of what was going on. Finally got caught up!
This is a great story. Yes, the art was weak at first, but to me the story is more important than the art — tell a good enough story, and I’ll keep reading despite the art. And the art has gotten MUCH better!
My biggest concern is that while the art and the story have improved a lot, your production speed does not seem to have improved as much, so there’s been a fairly steady decline in the update schedule. You started off trying to do 3 a week, then 2 a week, then 1-1/2 per week (2 one week and 1 the next), then 1 a week, and now you’re trying to hold at 1 every other week! I’m sure you’ve noticed that your Patreon income tends to drop as the update frequency drops, so I really think you need to work out some way to get back to, say, one or two a week and keep it there. I forget what software you use to draw the comic, but I’m sure there are lots of YouTube videos teaching how to make more effective use of said software, so perhaps you could find some more efficient drawing techniques that way? (That’s not a criticism, by the way; I’ve seen you mention many times that you’re pretty much self-taught as an artist, so maybe looking for ways to learn from others could speed up the learning process?)
Anyway, I’m going to make sure NOT to lose this comic’s bookmark again, and I will keep reading it no matter what happens to the update schedule. 😎
It’s my impression a large part of the issue is Past has another pot on the fire, and the other pot is the one that pays the bills. Past has never managed to be regular enough to really have stable Patreon income.
If I’m not mistaken, that’s not 100% accurate. Past does have stable Patreon income… it’s just the Patreon account associated with the Dungeons and Dragons stuff.
I haven’t been here in ages. It’s nice to be back. Glad to see the comic’s still updating!
P.S. I’ll start handing out pitchforks the evening of October 8th (man it’s been a while!).
The time draws near.
Just got the pitchforks last night. I’m ready to start distribution.
She reminds me Security. Makes less sense the more you’re told.
I love it.
A lot of people get distracted and forget to play to their strengths, but not Naomi. She truly takes punching things to another level.
Reminds me of the description another character gave her fairly early in the comic: “She’s big on justice. The punching kind.”
Did… did Naomi just punch straight through the comic panel??
Yup, she surely did. The recorder Past was using couldn’t handle the amount of Mana Naomi gathered before the punch. Unfortunately, Past left out the panel where Naomi smiled… grin.
Now we know why the comic was late. Past was knocked over by the concussion and has been recuperating.
Back to reality… Past I sincerely hope that things get better for you and life uncomplicates itself.
She has been fighting a few constructs recently, hasn’t she? Atter’s demons. Eliana’s spirits. And even before that, she was practicing punching through inanimate constructs, like Kally’s during the “tennis” match, and Jayce’s shield even way back in chapter 1.
I guess the next time she punches a Kor’s World soldier, they’ll stay punched…
Or maybe we’ll get to see what one looks like without their fancy construct armor.
Agreed. Naomi was still powering up while fighting the Kor’s World soldier when she was momentarily taken down by lethal poison gas. The soldier was concerned enough that he asked for permission to use lethal force. I wonder how it would have ended if the gas hadn’t briefly “killed” Naomi.
Technically, I don’t think she was ‘taken down’ by the lethal poison gas. She just realized if she continued to fight while in the gas, she would be taken down by it, so played dead as a way to withdraw from combat.
Yes, yes she has. heh…it’s so fun when you split the party.
Thus Tyler learns that “Naomi Logic” works externally, too.
His crash course in it continues….
And this is why you don’t split up the party.
Um, what is why? I’m afraid I don’t see the issue. They had a problem and they were able to solve it. Or do you mean that you depend on having people present who can actually explain what happened?
You heard Past. Even they didn’t know why it worked that way. You expect Peter to be able to do better? This was the real reason *why* the party was split. So Peter could remain an expert on all things even those Past hasn’t quite figured out yet.
Movie trope. Any time a group of teenagers goes into a Horror movie type setting (think this qualifies) the split up the party… and at least one group gets attacked. Think Scooby and the Gang.
I think in this case, every group is expected to be attacked, possibly multiple times, by a diverse group of enemies. Which is why every group has one member who has some sort of crazy powerful area defense skill, in every group (Kally and Eliana with their shields/constructs, Tyler with his freezing, Muim with his edios disruption).
This.

Don’t split the party.
Thank you.
