A wee bit late. But it’s sort of a long comic. At least it has lots of words. And that’s after I cut an entire debate between Peter and Ila if a ‘shelled grape’ meant a grape with a shell, or a grape that had its shell removed.

Hey Folks-
No comic this week, but I’ll be back next week (10/14) with a comic.
In the meantime… think of some Halloween costumes for characters. I’ll ask for recommendations on next comic (should be relatively simple things, nothing too crazy).
There’s a lot of that going around right now. You could just mumble something about a hurricane or no power and people would probably go along with it.
For what it’s worth, a shelled grape means all of:
– a grape after a shellectomy.
– a grape which has been further protected by the addition of a shell.
– a grape which has been subjected to munitions fire.
– a grape that was spent acquiring something.
I feel like I’m missing at least one meaning, but the online dictionaries that I checked don’t seem to have others. This sort of thing frequently made arguments with my more argumentative sibling more frustrating. I mean, they were more interested in continuing the argument than they were in having a conclusion to said argument, especially if said conclusion would not be in their favor, so once they started evading a “loss” by shifting which definition they were using for their various words, there really wasn’t any ending it besides walking away. And by walking away, I mean enough times, because they’d bring it up again later.
I won’t lie, the “munitions fire” one made me laugh.

That’s the “after a shellectomy”, isn’t it?
(Or are you positing a grape that never had a shell? But you would not use the word “shelled” to describe that, would you?)
You can get a few more by verbing the noun “shell,” e.g.
– A grape which has been used as a guise for something else (a la a shell company)
– A grape which has been placed under the control of a particular oil company (a la Shell, the company)
– A grape which has been smacked by a seashell

I swept the cursor over all the frames and didn’t get a “blink” anywhere. Please, this humble, mind meddled one begs for you to enlighten us oh venerable one. Thx.
Oh, no. My apologies. I’ve just become so accustomed to there being faded or semi obscured text, I was just checking to see of anyone saw any. I often view it only on my cell, so it’s easy to miss. I’ve not seen anything that suggests there is some in this comic.
I think we have come close enough to the reality that the comic normally happens in to make those a bit more rare for the moment.

Not sure where you see Minerva today, but I think you’re right about the first part. The council is understandably wary of the IDS, since her experience with their leadership had been Sofi, Biana, and Aron. All three of which have had little compunction about bringing an armed military force, counting Atter, into her country. Biana tried to kill the council directly twice, and Aron tried to kidnap the council once to prevent said assassination.
As for Alex Fairway. He’s taking the route of seeing what’s really going on by just getting everyone together. Cut the knot and hear things directly.
Interestingly, thanks to Kyle Kepler, now two councilors are looking into this. We don’t know how big the council is, but I suspect it’s not that large. Two of the highest level politicians is a pretty big incentive to tie up loose ends and make nice. Especially since it seems half of Corporate Affairs would like nothing better than to blame it all on Baina.
This is a web comic, so the council is somewhere between three and ten people. If it were just the two, they’d be co-rulers, and more than 10 is too hard to draw in a web comic. Even if it’s 10 people, 20% involvement is fairly massive for a group as divided as the IDS.
Minerva is mentioned in the page https://pastutopia.com/comic/comic-for-monday-may-8th-2023/ . It’s an indirect reference, but that page lists a number of people who will be invited to the meeting.
I have to grammar: 2nd panel; Ila bubble; 2nd sentence: “That’s now how physics works.”
Sounds like it should be the 1st sentence in Peter’s bubble.
However, changing “now” to “not” would work, also.
I thought that was Vium in a scarf waiting at the dock at first. Please refresh my memory. Did Mium give Elliana the scarf?
I believe the last shopping trip Ila bought one for her, as help for the whole mess where she collapsed from low power.
Past, there is no need to apologize for being late. It was well worth the wait. “Lots of words” make for an amazing, interesting and entertaining comic. Explanations for character’s actions and motives come across quite well with the new comic format. By the way, a “shelled grape” conversation between logical Peter and psychotic Ila would have been interesting. 🙂
