You haven’t missed anything with Mium, Eliana, and Ila, the comic didn’t show how they got where they are. Last time we saw Mium and Ila they were on their way to visit Eliana.
Hope you folks are all doing well… Happy May!
Eliana’s appearances by chapter and page:
Chapter 14, pages 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 17, 21, 25, 32, 43.
Chapter 15, pages 39, 40, 41
Chapter 16, page 33 (that’s this one.)
I’m not giving links because that would be 14 links even if I didn’t link the current page.
You know…if there’s been a regular posting schedule, it might be possible to auto-generate links. With adjustments for non-regular postings, etc. If that’s your concern.
This comic is almost certainly not sufficiently regular to do directly, but one could probably write a script to pull the links from the archive page easily enough.
You’re no one important. AS FAR AS YOU KNOW!!!
Or that she is willing to admit to.
But designer child, childhood friend to key Family people, So comfortable with authority that she barely remembers meeting the Consul and famous enough athlete that she has her own branded apparel. yeah, that just SCREAMS “nobody”.
Security for each major family must have a file on her inches thick, and that doesn’t cover half of it….
Probably more “as far as she cares”. She probably cares less about politics and more about who she gets to punch next. (Or when the next sporting event that could be confused with actual bloodshed is being held.)
Heck, just look at their different interpretations of Ashvalt. “Jokes” about Naomi joining the Families? Kally, and others, might think he was being serious, but she practically spells out how uninterested she is in that, only ever thinking of it as a joke.
She probably, from a less-involved point of view, does appear to be very well-connected to lots of very important people. She’s more concerned about her clothes blowing up…again.
There are suspicious people doing suspicious things suspiciously!
One might say that things are not as they appear.
That could be… unfortunate. For them, obviously. When Eliana is the least dangerous of the three individuals you are looking to piss off, you are not going to have a great day.
It seems the green hair families do not have a good intelligence network or knowledge of non-family mages. Before the green haired vile hag was chopped by Ashvalt, she showed a remarkable lack of knowledge about Kally’s capabilities. The green haired minion in the last few panels does not recognize Aliana as a powerful mage. If either of the goons had a clue about any of the three they are facing, they would probably have wet stains on the front of their pants. The green hair’s nod is probably his last. My question is will the wall behind the goons survive? LOL! Guess we’ll find out in a few hours.
I almost want to see a short plot of MIUM trying to buy/looking for/hunting a scarf. I imagine it would be hilarious.
Sounds like an awesome idea for Patreon content…..
You don’t understand the serious weight of a scarf.
One cannot simply buy a scarf, it has to be bequeathed.
Even better. Now instead of a mere shopping trip, it’s a quest to convince someone to bequeath a scarf.
However it is also starting to sound like it might resemble the untold story of where that not military grade tank came from.
Now that would be awesome!!
There is a long running joke in the webcomic Girl Genius about how the Jaegermonsters have a thing for hats as battle trophies. Maybe Mium is the same way about scarves?
Not impossible, children are often precocious and a given scarf particularly a hand knitted scarf could be a token indicating that the giver regards the recipient as family not just acquaintance.
Past, how much would you charge us to make this happen?
I love the new Characters list in the footer box. Unfortunately, it seems it didn’t exist the last time we saw Eliana. Anyone happen to have a link?
I think it may be http://pastutopia.com/comic/comic-for-monday-july-19th-2020/

See if this comes through.
Btw, I was doing some brief poking at the ‘reply’ problem. It appears that the scripting that is responsible for generating a proper followup comes from wp-includes/js/jquery/comment-reply.min.js and that file is not being included on your root page. Brief google suggests that wordpress templates are responsible for that. Or you could just change your root page to do a 302 to the daily page.
Looking into this a bit, all the articles I could find were about how to remove that file, not seeing an obvious way to add it back in if it’s gone missing. Not sure what would have happened to it.
About that idea in the last page comments about assassination attempts that go very wrong…
Also, implicit in the term “The Families”, they’re more willing to tolerate abominations that they perceive as related. As such, it’s in Muim’s best interest to be perceived as family, especially since he has a magic talent that would almost certainly be considered Family-grade. As such, they would probably ask him sooner or later to either join them or die. It’s best for that answer to be “I was always a part of your group, we just didn’t know each other.”
Look, given your description Naomi, you also sound like a good catch. Ashvalt might just being seeing the writing that the minute you are willing to settle down a bit, your going to get offers.
Naomi tends to be the most emotionally perceptive of the main cast with the glaring exception of anything involving herself.
Even her comment earlier “I’m no one important” rings a little strange given that the Consul recognized her on sight and remembered meeting her… when Naomi didn’t remember meeting the Consul as she’d just met too many important people.
I think this is part of why Naomi doesn’t realize that dyeing her hair isn’t working well. The actual coloration difference is fairly subtle, but because everyone recognizes her, it is obvious her hair is dyed. She doesn’t even change her hairstyle, likely because it doesn’t occur to her that it would be distinctive.
… not to mention she’s wearing branded clothing right now that was made entirely because other people perceived her to be important. She’s the hero of her own story, which intersects enough with this one to be a main character, but she has no clue on this particular point.
To an extent, I think this is a common trait for humble people, but it’s fricking annoying. At least I’m not anyone important, which helps me to avoid being like this.
I’d be willing to bet that you are important to at least some of the people you know, and if you are a helpful sort, you may be important to people you don’t know as well.
I don’t recall if Naomi’s parentage has been disclosed. If she has been hanging out with Arkady, that at least her parents had enough accumen to get a designer child, and should be at least upper middle class. She is far too self assured and grounded but not imperious so she isn’t directly from a family line.
This looks interesting.
I REALLY hope this isn’t a new add to the ‘Family’ protocols for Mium. That would cause way too many complications.
Possibly. But think about this. Mium just (in comic time timeflow anyway) pointed out that his continued existence is far from guaranteed. One of the reasons he gave was his ever widening sphere of people who are aware of him.
The combined families’ power, despite Ila expressing the belief that Mium is unkillable, is probably a very real existential threat.
We also know that the families are perfectly willing to tolerate abominations (and I find Mium to be far preferable to most of our own politicians) if they happen to know them and feel that the threat they represent is a legitimate trade off between the damage they could do versus the damage incurred in destroying them.
Having one (some) of the important families feel they owe him a debt of gratitude might go a long way to tempering that threat from the families.
Maybe. Maybe not. Eliana is important enough that she’d probably merit a similar level of interaction and protection so long as team Peter is working along with The (non-exiled) Families.
That said, if we get to a point where those interests diverge, then yes, it’d absolutely become a source of too many complications.
It DOES sound like a typical Mium attempted-endrun around restrictions….
