In some cultures a female exposing her feet is an invitation for a tryst. Is the Consul changing her name to Mrs. Robinson? LOL Just a little humor to pass the time while hitting the refresh button for the next comic.
I’m glad that you are still alive and hope that your busyness means good things for other parts of your life (like bill-paying). It also bodes far better for future comics if you are alive!
I’ll find a way to stay entertained while waiting for next year week. Like working on my own 110k word novel that has been feeling rather neglected of late.
You know, given how freely everyone seems to talk about Kors World, the idea the council isn’t aware of at least the basics of the IDS home dimension is strange/interesting.
The IDS is technological superior, but obviously in the middle of a refugee crisis. Interdimensional smuggling seems to be fairly common, so I would expect an Intel brief to at least contain the basic history taught to children.
Also why all the secrecy in the first place? The threat posed by Kors World is both real and a good reason for nations of Palindra to work with the IDS. Yes, they would be admitting they weren’t top dog decades ago, but no one is forming alliances with a place that considers them “native wildlife”.
Re: last sentence: Perhaps they can’t actually do it, but it doesn’t mean they can’t try.
And they almost certainly would, thanks to the (hm, what word should I use) *astounding* intelligence of politicians. (… In the comic. Totally just meant in the comic.)
They probably don’t admit to their own problems specifically to not give anyone the idea that others could have leverage in negotiations “against” the IDS.
And I think Peter kinda sorta “explained” the Kor’s World thing, back when talking about “evil space people”: they could just drop out of the sky and there’s not much you can do about them. There’s not much TO explain. If the IDS actually has more information on how to defend against such a thing….well, I believe I’m paraphrasing Peter again (in that same conversation) with “the best way to prepare you for them is to give you everything the IDS has, and obviously they don’t want to do that”.
It’s about not showing any weaknesses, or over-arming someone who could then turn on you.
The IDS seem to operate on the principle that the locals should be kept in the dark. They don’t take local governments seriously, and mostly seem to work with corporations for reasons of profit. That’s the whole reason the Consul turned on them, as they were keeping her in the dark while they knew their own rules about interdimensional traffic were being flagrantly ignored.
What I think is important is this is a point where Peter splits off from the IDS. He gave them the gate detector. He told that random student the story of Central, seemingly with the intention that the student would pass the story along.
I think the IDS was created to combat the interdimensional threats like Kor’s World and the demons, but they’ve progressively moved on to their own self interests, becoming corrupted by typical motivations. It makes sense in that context why Peter has abandoned them. More than likely Peter isn’t working against Central itself, he is just undermining the IDS since it no longer is focused on its original objective.
I feel confident that Oriah only felt random because we don’t know who Nikud senior is or what they manage.
I don’t think Peter is undermining the IDS any more than the IDS normally undermines the IDS. Mostly what he has done has been to shine lights on how much the IDS undermines itself.
If you look at what Peter has done through the lens of him being an undercover agent, he’s been incredibly helpful to the IDS. Admittedly, he’s not really handled the undercover bit as well as one possibly could have, but he’s done a fairly decent job of passing himself as former IDS rather than current IDS, so that’s something.
> Admittedly, heβs not really handled the undercover bit as well as one possibly could have.
Peter is perfectly capable of lying low. We know because he hid from the IDS for a decent bit of time. However, he’s taking the 007 approach of just telling everyone who he is. The difference is he often expects people to recognize him and uses that as bait.
As Agent K told Agent J in MIB, the first movie “the only reason these people can continue with their daily lives is that they don’t know about it!”
Unless the IDS wants to mobilize everything they’ve got for Palindra’s sake, there’s no hope of them even thinking of slowing down Kor’s World, let alone stopping whatever it is they have planned.
If there’s nothing that can be done, it’s best to live in ignorance than be in a constant state of existential panic, as looting, riots, death cults, etc. are all going to come running out of the woodwork.
It’s been a long time since I read the comic their avatar is from, but I think Mir is the best candidate. Mir has the prerequisite insanity, and has been called a mad scientist by others that work with her.
Peter completely lacks the ‘manic’ nature of sparks. He tends to be very reserved, and while some of the things he’s done might qualify as mad science, he approaches it in a coldly rational way. Even if he did or made something batshit insane, he’d do it calmly.
Miko might qualify better, as she’s emotionally unstable, but she tends to be the opposite, being relatively calm and focused when she’s working, and being emotional and agitated when she has to deal with people.
Martin might qualify, but we haven’t seen enough of him. He seems to be on the more calm and rational end like Peter, but given he somehow ended up being some sort of half-construct ghost thing, he was pretty clearly deep in the mad science trenches.
I don’t know what caught my eye at first when I noticed something on Naomi’s hips. After I magnified my screen to 200% I could make out the straps of Naomi’s underwear. It appears that she is wearing a thong or very low cut panties. AArrgghh! Just noticed that Naomi’s lavender shirt has “FUN” printed over her chest. Naomi is a naughty girl! LOL
Peter as a calming influence is comical in and of itself. I have a feeling it’s more Miko’s abrasive personality here though. Naomi is perfectly fine acting as a lighting rod, and it’s obvious that behind her carefree attitude is a keen mind capable of dealing with people.
I’ll say it again … I love the new free form comic format. The multiple conversation bubbles give readers much more information as to what is going on. That really helps feeble old geezers like me.
BTW, did anyone else notice that Naomi’s underwear is color coordinated with her hair? LOL

We’re going to want to read that.
When I am done I will post a note to you, then we can figure out how to make it happen.
That *is* funny. Makes them seem more human.
I know, right?? It’s *totally* funny!

This was a very good one today π
@Jim, this old geezer didn’t notice until you pointed it out π Good eye!
Completely off topic from today’s wonderful comic. Who, given your gravatar, would you consider to be a spark in this comic?
It’s been a long time since I read the comic their avatar is from, but I think Mir is the best candidate. Mir has the prerequisite insanity, and has been called a mad scientist by others that work with her.
Peter completely lacks the ‘manic’ nature of sparks. He tends to be very reserved, and while some of the things he’s done might qualify as mad science, he approaches it in a coldly rational way. Even if he did or made something batshit insane, he’d do it calmly.

Kally has been so laid back recently I almost forgot that she tends to be snappy and grumpy when Peter isn’t around.
Peter as a calming influence is comical in and of itself. I have a feeling it’s more Miko’s abrasive personality here though. Naomi is perfectly fine acting as a lighting rod, and it’s obvious that behind her carefree attitude is a keen mind capable of dealing with people.
To be fair, Miko is involved. Miko might not have the most unpleasant personality in the comic (Dr Mir does exist), but she’s certainly near the top.
the argument between Kally and Miko, this is my favorite sitcom, I’ve never seen it.
Who would have thought that Naomi the Puncher would be a mediator.
Just noticed in Weber’s last speech bubble at frame 4 that he witnessed the argument between Kally and Miko about Peter being missing.
Weber is still a bit frazzled and not sure exactly what was going on in the Palace Between.
I’ll say it again … I love the new free form comic format. The multiple conversation bubbles give readers much more information as to what is going on. That really helps feeble old geezers like me.
