Comic for Monday, January 11th
Sorry this a little late. Was out most of the day and didn’t get it scheduled to go up before I left.
Hopefully will start drawing a little more this coming week, but we are still on strict wrist-rest so we’ll see how much gets done. I would really like to continue to work on the art. I feel like the during this time of enforced rest the brain has move further forward then the hand – I can see more improvements than I can implement, and it’s frustrating! 😉
I feel it’s a little awkward reading through this section we never got to see Naomi’s point of view, but – even ignoring that she mostly just goes along with Peter – I don’t think it would take much convincing to get her to play games… and she may have played this game before.
As for the rest of them, well, I suspect we’ll get more insight into their thoughts sooner or later… 😉
As always, thanks for reading, and hope you’re looking forward to reading more, as I am certainly looking forward to writing more.
I assume points can go negative? Otherwise, there’s no downside to fouling someone as soon as the match begins.
The other player just gets a point.
The wording is a little confusing, I probably shoulda worded it as ‘you lose the point’ … err… blame Peter, he said it, not me!
Irregardless, in both cases (the ball hitting the ground on your side or a foul), the other player just gets a point.
What I find most interesting is the fact that destroying property or attacking your opponent just loses you a point, instead of getting the game or the cops called. I guess that learning magic makes people toughen up. :p
Although now I’m curious about what kinds of strategies involve sending fireballs at your opponent.
Still Peter only said directly attacking your opponent loses a point. So a giant firewall that splits the arena in two could be completely fine.
Well, you know, accidents and stuff. I think you’ll find that sports-safety has not been improved by the involvement of magic, but fortunately human durability has been…
As the sports of this world go, this is probably one of the safer ones really, at least of the directly competitive kind… 😉
I would reckon there has been times in history where less scrupulous players have explored exactly how much they can get out of a 1-point foul. That said, usually it’s played to either 3 or 5 points, so one point is fairly significant penalty.
I suspect many a person has been wholloped by a ball they mis-read the speed of.
Even without magic that’s a danger! And fair game, though people tend to frown on aiming for the other player… 😉
He did say ‘directly’… hitting them with the ball is sorta ‘indirectly’! 😛
Actually, this is a good way for Kally and Naomi to face off without killing each other. Without having Peter involved, they may actually enjoy the match. 🙂
I also take note that Kally looks almost happy here–or at least not scowly. ^^
I recall Peter was looking for to see what Naomi could do that didn’t involve the risk of her getting killed after all… and he was thinking something about multiple birds with stones just a bit ago… 😛
I hear once upon a time Kally smiled. It’s just rumors and hearsay though.
